Keifer Taylor 7­2­15 To exercise more and eat healthier Personal Health Section 1 Living a sedentary lifestyle and eating too much unhealthy foods can lead to gaining weight, diabetes, and many chronic diseases. Being overweight or obese greatly increases the risk factors to many diseases. We can all agree that weight management with sufficient exercise and proper dieting is very important for preventing diseases but also improving the quality of life. Being overweight or obese can lead to many health related problems such as coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, and sometimes even reproductive problems. Coronary heart disease is a condition where fatty waxy substances called plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries. These coronary arteries deliver blood rich in oxygen to the heart. With enough build up, the plaque can narrow and even block these coronary arteries which reduces blood flow to the heart. This can ultimately lead to a heart attack. When the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs then this is called a heart failure. When there is a buildup of plaque in the arteries sometimes they can rupture causing for a blood clot to form. If this clot is close enough to the brain then the clot can slow down or block oxygen and blood to the brain leading to a stroke.
