The start of my exercise science journey began when I was a little kid. I played sports throughout my childhood and into my senior year of high school but my desire to really exercise started when I went to gym class. I thought our Gym teacher, Mrs. Starnes was the coolest lady and I enjoyed how she could talk about our bodies and knew different activities that got everyone to exercise. Also, I loved watching college football and baseball as a child and remember seeing that when the athletes would get hurt; that they would get help from one or two people who would try to find out the problem and what happened. When I was little, I did not know that the job that I saw on television would be one that I would be aiming towards as I got older. …show more content…
Physical therapy to me hits deeply because I had to go to therapy twice for a number of months. The atmosphere and attitudes of the people who helped me were so determined to make sure that I got better and back to my full potential if possible. That is one thing that makes me want to be a physical therapy. I want to be able to help people through a dark time of injury and help motivate them and guide them through their situation. Also, I want to be able to make a great impact on someone’s life in wellness. Athletic training is a desire on my …show more content…
With being accepted it help push me one step closer to the goals placed in my heart and mind. Also, it would allow me to continue to learn more about the human body and science behind fitness which can be used to change the world Also, being accepted would allow me to build connections with other people who have the same drive as me and I can push myself more to be better in the field. I can also, work on my team work skills to help do my best to elevate others around me and elevate myself. Working as a team is a good skill since we are all working towards the same goal somehow which is graduating and helping better a person’s life so that they can live a happy and healthy
Ever since I was a kid, it has been my life goal to help as many people I can. I have moved around in many different areas of the medical field, but no career had caught my eye as much as physical therapy. As an athlete, I have been in and out of the physical therapist’s office for a majority of my life. Each time I have went I could not help but be beyond grateful for what these people have done for me; they have given me the ability to play the sport I love despite all the hiccups. Physical therapy is a dynamic field within the field of medicine because as a physical therapist one can make a difference in the lives of his or her patients, enjoy job security, and enjoy a rewarding and personally satisfying career.
I continued following my medical interest by shadowing the athletic trainers for four years while also taking medical courses through the medical academy my high school offers. Shadowing throughout high school provided hands on experience while also allowing me to see what it would be like to be an athletic trainer. Learning the different types of medical professionals duties that come along with the job allowed me to decide before I got to college that athletic training was not what I wanted to major in. The courses I had taken along with shadowing the trainers were something that assisted and guided me to pursue Exercise Science. The courses that helped guide my understanding of Exercise Science were Exploring the Language of Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology, and Exercise Science. Throughout taking the Exercise Science course I realized that I had a true passion for exercise science. This course provided information on how broad of a field Exercise Science was. I also learned that the exercise science program serves as foundation for advanced study in exercise science and other areas such as exercise physiology, medicine, physical therapy, sports nutrition, sports psychology and more. Throughout this class we looked at different jobs that Exercise Science majors could go on to take after completing your undergraduate degree. The jobs range from a Nutritionist, Physical Therapist, Physician Assistant and more. After taking this class it also lead me to decide that I wanted to pursue being a Physician Assistant in the Emergency
As Kinesiology is being more recognized around the country, I want to further my study in the Masters of Science degree in Kinesiology at California State University of Fullerton (CSUF). The fields that I want to grasp are Health and Fitness Promotion and Exercise Physiology. The reason why I am applying to the program is to expand my knowledge and teach Kinesiology outside of school in order to promote health. Throughout my life, my family has been promoting me with fitness from indoor sports to aquatic sports. I was constantly switching from physical therapy and health and fitness.
It probably does not look like it now, but I do have an interest for physical fitness. During my early years in high school, I was introduced to the practice of exercise and diet. It actually all started because I wanted to impress a girl, so I bought a fitness book and a pair of dumbbells. I then began learning different exercises, reading about different foods, and studying ways to build a better physique, all on my own personal time. This led to helping others jumpstart their own personal health, sharing the information I learned and going through the exercise motions with them. At this point, I even considered becoming a personal trainer. This, in turn, piqued my interest in the anatomy of the body and how it
I have chosen to study athletic training because it allows me to still participate and be involved in sports as well as be able to help athletes recover from injuries while gaining valuable clinical experience for physical therapy. Growing up I have always had a love for sports but I have not been graced with the abilities to become a professional athlete. With my love for sports as a youth I watched a lot on television with my father and I would see athletes get injured and medical personnel rush out to their aid. When I found out they were athletic trainers and physical therapists, I knew that is what I wanted to do when I grew up. All throughout high school I was involved in sports and unfortunately had an injury or two. Although our school did not have an athletic trainer, I went to many different specialists and
The physical therapy profession is concerned with treating individuals of all ages. In the future, I plan on being able to comfort individuals undergoing physical therapy by being able to use my compassionate nature, caring, understanding, and the expertise that I will gain, while serving as their physical therapist. In doing the previously mentioned things, I hope to be considered as an important asset to society. I believe that people will be able to increase their viability by seeking my assistance.
I am interested in the profession of athletic training because this profession would allow me to work with athletes and help them recover from injuries so they could continue their passion in sports. Encourage my disabled father to walk by executing some exercises that I learned including my knowledge of anatomy and physiology inspired me to seek a career that involves physical activity. I felt working with active individuals suited my personality. What motivated me the most to pursue a career in athletic training is the opportunity to help people in need, and working in a setting that I enjoy and that is sports. The athletic trainer is essential for the team success because without them most players would end their career after an injury.
Participation in sport alone has not been enough for me. A degree in Sport and Exercise Science is the obvious option to satisfy my fascination with how the human body functions, a deep-rooted passion which has only been amplified by my own exploits as an athlete.
As I have almost completed my sophomore year of college, I know what my career goals are at this point. I am currently on the physical therapy track planning to declare the major of exercise science: applied kinesiology. I became interested in PT after hearing many appealing things about it such as: the rapid growth and demand of physical therapists, the purpose it serves, and financial stability that comes along with the rewarding work. I am eager to learn about the functions, progress, and healing of the human body in the most natural manner, and through exercise science my knowledge in this study will certainly grow.
Now, I was the one who was able to develop treatment plans for patients. I loved being able to help my athletes reach their goals and return to play. Although there were aspects of Athletic Training that I enjoyed, I found that there were other parts of the profession that I did not like, especially acting as a first responder at athletic events. At my clinical rotations, I often found myself thinking about working as a physical therapist. My injury opened my eyes to a profession I had never considered before.
Personal training is about helping people learn how to get active and healthy through series of movements that enhance mobility, aesthetics, and cardiovascular health. Physical therapy is about aiding those who have lost or never had that ability to gain it at least in some moderate way. There is nothing more important to me than relationships and helping those in need. Although there are several ways to achieve this, one thing we all want is to be around for our loved ones for as long as possible. A Pediatric Physical Therapist is not just a doctor to these children and parents, but they form bonds and personal relationships. To me, this is more important, having a human element to your job where compassion and gradual improvements to the quality of someone’s life far exceed the financial rewards. Working for multimillion dollar company has brought me satisfaction in ways of personal growth, but has only shown me the ugliness of people in pursuit money. I do not nor will I ever fit that mold and I would rather change one life for the better, then make money for a business who’s only motivation is making more money. Upon completing my Associates with GTCC, I plan on transferring to UNCG to complete a bachelors in Kinesiology and Apply to UNC chapel hills Physical Therapy
In the future, I see myself as being a physical therapist assistant. I am interested in this career choice because I enjoy fitness and helping others improve their life. Being able to see a person making progress and being a part of that process is an amazing feeling. I want to be able to use being a PTA as a platform to touch someone’s life in a positive way. Working as a PTA, I would need to be able to work with physical therapist to help people with lack of mobility.
9th grade I fractured my lateral condyle of the femoral head, leaving me with 2 months of physical therapy. At first I hated it never wanting to go, saying my trainer was too young to even know what he was doing. However, when my trainer, Adam, started to make it a game with me on how fast I can progress my competitive side came to play and i couldn't help but want to take him up on his offer. As the weeks passed by I started loving the atmosphere watching patients work towards
My whole life since the age of 3 revolved around sports. I excelled in soccer and continued to play at the collegiate level. During my high school years I wanted to be the best player I could so I started reading fitness magazine and as much about nutrition as I could. At 16 years old, I started to lift weights before school started and immediately fell in love with the combination of weight training and nutrition.
My interest in Kinesiology and Health Sciences stems from my background in athletics. During my senior year of high school, I suffered a severe back injury that prevented me from finishing my final year as a rower and from continuing to row in college. I participated in extensive physical therapy, and although the road to recovery seemed to never end, the person who motivated me, pushed my limits, and helped me feel understood was my physical therapist. She made a large impact on my life as an athlete and in a deeper, more personal manner and I found myself wanting to do the same.
