2nd hour My Job Shadowing Experience
My job shadowing experience was at lane Bryant to help me understand retail and learn about my future job. It opened my eyes to things I didn’t know, I understood a lot after the shadowing. It made me make the decision to stick with fashion; I got a lot of needed information from my job shadowing. Fashion is a big deal to me, and this job shadowing helped me take a step close to my passion. Lane Bryant helped me take a look at my future career.
I went to Lane Bryant for my job shadowing. I was able to shadow Mrs. Sharita West and others who was working that day. Lane Bryant is a clothing store for plus size women, they sale undergarments, accessories, and clothes also a few shoes. Lane Bryant provides customer service to clients, while creating an exciting and comfortable shopping environment. Mrs. West drives the business, coaches employees, controls payment, and maintains store appearance. She enters this profession because she enjoys helping others feel good about themselves. She also enjoys

Fashion is big deal and lots of people don’t understand how to put two things and make it work. I love helping people find there style so they can feel comfortable in what they wear. When I did the shadowing I had a lot of fun working, and actually getting a feel of the work environment. Being hands on in lane Bryant gave me a better for me understand how to do the work. I was able to learn way better being hands on then just standing around learning. I enjoyed every bit of it, she showed me what to do then observe me to make sure I was doing it right and I caught on quick. I could teach others how to do the job. It was great going there and being filled with knowledge people my age probably wouldn’t know. I have the information to be able to apply for a job and already know what to
After I graduated from high school, I still didn’t know where and what I wanted to do, but I always knew that I wanted to be in the fashion industry. My sister, who is graduated from The New School Parsons with a degree of fashion design, helped to lead me and trace a path for me. That’s how I decided to come to New York and started my adventure. The first year I had a foreign language study as known as American Language Program at Columbia University. After I completed my studies for a year, I applied to Berkeley college for the fashion merchandising and management major, after I got accepted, I started my studies in 2012 and continue my education in Berkeley College currently.
Wayne Dyer once said “doing what you love is the cornerstone of having abundance in your life”. Ever since I was a little girl, fashion has always been a very important part of my life. However, while most young girls were busy designing Barbie’s next outfit, I was enthusiastically trying to figure out the best way to market and sell Barbie to my friends. This habit did not end during my childhood years; rather it followed me through high school. I firmly believe that being passionate about your career can add much happiness and depth to your life. By attending FIT I can bring and take away positive ideas and qualities.
As a child, I have always been a visually observatory person. Patterns, textiles, and fashion have always been high interests of mine. My childhood consisted of many Barbie dolls as toys, and it wasn't the Barbie dolls that I wanted to play with, but the clothes that I loved to collect and interchange between the dolls. Creating different outfits for the dolls made me feel as if I was making my own mark in fashion. As I grew older, begging my mother to purchase fashion magazines like Vogue, Elle, and Harpers Bazaar were typical and became expected. While flipping through the pages of fashion magazines, I was enthralled while examining the latest trends from celebrities and models. This is what influenced me to want to work in the fashion industry.
Into 11th grade I pursued this path of taking fashion classes in the city, and took fashion marketing classes in. From all the hard work and determination In these classes through out high school, I was rewarded with high grades, which are hard to obtain in these courses. I also stood out because I was interviewed and placed upon the FIT website itself, under “who’s in precollege?” (When you apply for a course) which holds the information and pictures of a handful of unique and stylish individuals. All of my fashion experiences as a whole have built me into the hardworking, determined, independent individual I am now and I am very proud that was able to achieve these aspects in order to reach my goal of being apart of the fashion industry. I also feel that this has made me eligible and also worthy of becoming a member of the National Honor Society who’s character will be beneficial towards this
A hospital seems like the perfect job cite for me. I would not feel more comfortable any where else. Being an RN and nursing is what I am called to do and what I am going to do with my life when I am done with high school. SFA is where I plan to get my degree in this field. I feel confident that this school will prepare me for the life as an RN.
For my shadowing in a dental office, I chose to shadow at Crest Smile Shoppe. I chose here because my mom regularly goes here for herself and the team members there said I was more than welcome to come in their office and shadow whoever.
I chose to job shadow the equipment manager because I have helped them at one of their practices when I was younger. I really enjoyed doing it then, and I enjoyed doing it now. I just helped put bags and things away when I did it the first time, but when I came back to do it for my job shadow, there was a plethora of things to do. I job shadowed John, not only to be around football, but to help out at their games and practices.
I interviewed Casey Ramm, the current store manager for Rugged Wearhouse in Durham, North Carolina. Casey has been the store manager for five months now. Rugged Wearhouse is a clothing chain store with apparel for families at discount prices. Before this job Casey worked in a variety of different positions across sales and service industries. Casey attended the University of Wisconsin at Green Bay, where he played division one basketball and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance in 1983. After graduating from Green Bay, Casey attended the University of Kansas, where he pursued an MBA in Business Administration. Casey left Kansas half way through the MBA program to start his first job in 1984 as the General Manager for Carnes
It was only a seasonal job, so they weren't too picky with their hiring and within a month I was hired and put to training. Training was fun, it was I working like everybody but somewhat supervised. After the training I'll be honest, I hated working there. I couldn't stand having to put clothes away for four hours and barely being able to talk to anybody besides a passerby customer who would politely brush me off every time I asked the required, "Do you need any help with anything? No? Okay, let me know!" It got old real quick. I missed the constant interaction I got with the kids I used to
I spent my job shadowing day at Dial-X. Dial-X is a company that designs, builds, and tests automated manufacturing machines and systems that take the place of dangerous or unwanted manned manufacturing positions. I spent my day with Mark Memsic, a mechanical engineer. Mark designs and helps build the machines that are produced. Mark also solves problems with other companies’ logistical problems.
I have been employed with Weill Cornell Advanced Medical Care for about a year and a half and it has been a tremendous experience to learn about all of the different parts that make up a medical office. Before my shadowing experience with Dr. Kapchits in March of 2015, my duties were mainly clerical instead of clinical. I spent some time typing up doctors reports and I felt that this helped me better understand some of the medical terminology that were used during my shadowing experience. I have also spent an abundant amount of time scanning in EKG's, EP studies, and even echocardiograms, and this only enhanced my experience when I began to shadow Dr. Kapchits. Shadowing Dr. Kapchits helped me learn more about the clinical aspect of a medical
I’ve met really wonderful women while interning at Dress for Success. The staff was always warm and welcoming. It was not too far into my internship where I began to feel like one of the team. Many of the volunteers at Dress for Success come from business backgrounds. Samara worked at Neiman Marcus for a number of years and has impeccable fashion sense. Kristina works in marketing at
I chose to job shadow John Grove, the equipment manager at the College of Idaho, because I have helped them at one of their practices a couple years ago. I really enjoyed doing it then, and it was more enjoyable now. I
It wasn’t until the end of the day that Susan pulled me aside and gave me some good advice. In her words, “People in the store are going to drive you mad. They are the pickiest, finickiest folks I’ve ever seen. But if you keep a smile on your face, keep calm and do a good job, you’ll survive the day, and we’ll get along just fine.” Even though it wasn’t exactly the greatest advice ever, it was what helped me keep my sanity the whole season I was there. I made some good friends, good money and I realized that working isn’t as easy as it seems. But all in all, it was a good job, and a good
The scent of fresh waffles, sound of radio pop music, light from the open sign. Just another long day at work. Everything is just like the usual. Restock utensils, greet customers, take orders, collect payments, and clean up. At seventeen, wanting to save up for my post-secondary tuition, I decided to work a part time job alongside school. I thought that not only does it give me money, it can also give me valuable work experience. Working at a part time job sounds like a perfect opportunity for me. However, after this experience, my perspective of working in the service industry completely changed.
