Experiencing Flatulence Research Paper

Decent Essays

Experiencing flatulence, or gas, during pregnancy is a normal symptom and happens during early pregnancy when the pregnant woman's hormones are higher and their digestion begins to slow down causing more time for gas to build up. The hormone that is particularly important with passing gas would be progesterone because it relaxes the muscles including the intestinal muscles which increases the time to digest by thirty percent. The build up of gas looks to exit the body by either flatulence or burping. Experiencing flatulence later in pregnancy is due to the uterus growing and putting pressure on the abdominal cavity. It would be nearly impossible to eliminate flatulence during pregnancy, but there are ways to help reduce the amount of them.
