Flying alongside the clouds at high altitudes; to hear nothing except the thoughts in my head and to go to far away destinations on a weekend is just some of the reasons I enjoy flying. I start out early in the morning heading out to the local airport. At that time in the morning, I can feel the chill in the air. It is so quiet at the beginning of dawn. I know when I am close to the airport; I can smell the aviation fuel burning from the aircraft on the runway. Once I arrive, I head straight to the aircraft hangar where I left my aircraft the previous day. Next, I would walk around the aircraft to do a visual inspection of any damage to the aircraft that may have been done on a previous flight. If there is some minor damage, I log it in …show more content…
If you are looking for a flying club that has all the characteristics of the aviation’s dream world, Experimental Aircraft Association is the club for you. The Experimental Aircraft Association was founded in 1953 by veteran aviator Paul Poberezny along with other aviation enthusiasts. The Experimental Aircraft Association describes the founder and the organization as:
The organization began as more or less a flying club. Paul Poberenzy explains the nature of the organization's name, "Because the planes we flew were modified, or built from scratch they were required to display an EXPERIMENTAL placard where it could be seen on the door or cockpit, so it was quite natural that we call ourselves the "Experimental Aircraft Association". Paul Poberezny often said that there was not a day that went by that he did not say the word "airplane." His flight experiences began as a high school student and continued through service in World War II and the Korean conflict. Between the wars, he began his hands-on approach to aircraft design and building that would direct his future and his legacy. Paul Poberezny's life and career was a shining example of vision, self-reliance, and leadership. He is regarded as one of the individual giants of aviation’s first century, with an influence that reaches beyond a single flying
A discourse community is a group of people who share a particular interest and use certain language to communicate with each other. You probably belong to many discourse communities and didn’t even knew it. I belong to a variety of them and they help me out abundantly. Think about it, your discourse community help you out mentally, physically, and emotionally. One discourse community I belong to is The Worship Center. I love being apart if TWC because the entire church is dynamic in many different ways, the members are intentional, and most importantly they are educational.
Do you know who invented the airplane? The Wright Brothers did! They became interested in flight at young ages after reading about Otto Lilienthal, a glider pilot. They wanted to make something that could fly further.
To open this essay I have to start with saying that I will not be analyzing a manuscript, but a journal article instead, which the reason for will be explained later. Now, to define a journal article in a simple and modern definition, we can say it is a professionally published article that deals with a specialized subject. More specifically, in this case our genre is an engineering journal article. Contents within will range from current research results, charts and graphs of data, even current standings and analysis on subjects. A journal article is ultimately intended for engineers who have a research interest in a field, with at least some prior knowledge. The level of which its usefulness arises to is based on background knowledge on the topic. The engineer discourse community who will pick up this genre will most likely be familiar, to a degree, with the content, or at least have prior knowledge of engineering concepts. Those engineers who want to help or further their own research will turn to these articles; they can then base where to begin once having been briefed by its content. These engineering journal articles allow for the progression of engineering, making them the most important genre encountered in the field.
Discourse communities have existed and been discussed for many years. To become a member of a discourse community one must be a part of something that many people can relate to, experience is a key part of this. At the start of my freshman year I was subjected to change; my life was moved from one location to another, and I was therefore forced to change schools. This changeover had a significant effect on my life moving forward. I had to learn to adjust in a new place, and adapt my personality to make myself more open and outgoing. This task was difficult to say the least, as it was the first time in my life where I was faced with meeting new people, and practically starting over, isn’t the unknown the scariest of all?. However, I was never alone in my struggle. Millions of people throughout the world have been put into the same situation as myself, sometimes even more than once. I am part of a discourse community consisting of students who have moved schools and been forced to adapt and fit into their new situations. Being a member of this community has taught me that life comes with challenges, as
As an incoming freshman at the University of Texas at Arlington I can say I have been in several organizations that have challenged my social skills. However, they were nothing compared to the discourse community I was a member of. It will be proven time and time again that I indeed was not only a member but also a valuable asset to this community. Let us ponder for a moment on what a discourse community actually is. It consists of many components involving but not limited to ethos, pathos, and logos. All three of which I possess and have mastered in my arts. You must realize what the set boundaries are for it to be included as such. Must sports be included even though it is more physical than conversely active? What about Student Government? Yes, we had conversations and planned events at meetings but our relationship with each other was only to a certain extent. Although my participation in sports and student government contributed to my When I think of a discourse community, automatically I associate it with the experience in my high school band. Our close knit community very well made me the person I am today.
“Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative place where no one else has ever been,” in the words of Actor Alan Alda. And that is what why many creative people flock to the seemingly popular subreddit inside Reddit.com, known as FanTheories to to share theories, interpretations and speculation related all types of creative works and to experience a creative place most are unable to say they have been. I too am one of these people who became an active member of this discourse community as it represents my high interest in creative works and combines it with critical thinking and postulating to explore new ideas and bring new life into aging media. However, there is much more to FanTheories than just sharing ideas and hypotheticals
A discourse community is a group of people who share a set of discourses, understood as basic values and assumptions, and ways of communicating about those goals. John Swales defines a discourse community as "groups that have goals or purposes, and use communication to achieve these goals." The community I choose to identify with is special education. Special education teachers, or aids, really dedicate themselves and their time to others who need special assistance or treatment. The California Department of Education supports high quality educational programs for California’s big student population. According to the ideas from the federal government, the variety of the education working environment is one of the fastest growing areas of the American economy. The importance in understanding this career includes emotional, and physical growth of each student. Working with students who have disabilities can be very rewarding, but it is sometimes emotionally demanding and physically draining. Before stepping into the job of becoming a special education teacher, it is important to understand the patience that is needed in order to work with special children.
The beginning of the museum started out with the root of all planes, the Wright brothers. Furthermore, the Wright brothers are widely known for building the first flying airplane. Moreover, the museum included an exact replica of their first
Over the past 80+ years, AIAA and its predecessor societies have supported the aerospace community in so many ways – with publications; public lectures and later, technical conferences; journals, and many other activities. A group of the earliest members even performed their own rocket experiments, later forming a commercial company that became a leader in the industry. AIAA has also monitored and often recorded the activities of its members, through those same books, papers, journals, conferences. We watched as airplanes developed into jets; as jets went supersonic; and as spaceflight went from a dream to reality. AIAA can say with pride that an AIAA member has been involved with most of the major milestones in flight, so our history is interweaved with the history of aerospace. We present here a brief history of AIAA as an organization as well as a recognition of important events and pioneers from around the
As people we tend to associate with others with a common interest working together to accomplish something great for others or for ourselves. Amongst us there are an infinite of numbers of a discourse communities, which is limitless to identify each one. John Swales, author of “The Concept of Discourse Community”, describes it as group of individuals that share a common goal and sub-goals as a whole. Or as James Porter definition of a discourse community: “is a group of individuals bound by a common interest who communicate through approved channels and whose discourse is regulated. These community represent certain ideology and views of the world that defines them apart from others. Swales states it must meet six specific criteria
On November 2016, a representative speaker from Boeing, a famous aviation company, came to Texas A&M University to talk about basics of the company. He started by talking about Boeing’s motto, “build something better,” and how the Boeing team manages to continually advance their airplanes’ capabilities. The speaker explained about the flowchart of the development of a modern airliner, in which an airline needs to assess the market to identify their need and make a design based on, test the design, and finally deliver the product. In addition he explained about the typical product requirement for airplanes, such as safety, cost, and comfort of passengers. Furthermore, he explained about validation, which is basically confirming
A discourse community comprises of a group of people, especially within a sphere of intellectual or social activity, who share common goals, who support and understand each other using their own specific language or manner of interaction whether verbal or non-verbal (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2017). Two discourse communities I consider to be a part of and that have a distinct impact on my life include my family in India, and my education at Pace university. These communities are a world apart and yet they share a common goal – my well-being and my success.
North American Aviation, a company that manufactures aircraft, got an order from the British for Curtiss P-40 fighter planes; they needed planes for the inevitable war ahead. However, the president of North American had an idea for a new fighter, called the P-51 Mustang, with an Allison V-1710-39 engine. Without the engine, and with the help of experienced workers, a prototype was built in 117 days. It flew six weeks after the prototype was finished and immediately outperformed the existing fighter planes. One of its most extraordinary features was its improved wing design. It strayed from the regular wing measurements and thickness, resulting in a sleeker, faster, and more elusive
Flying has been a dream by many over the years, but who invented the Airplane? That’s actually quite controversial, if you search for it on the internet you will get many different
The Wright brothers invented the first airplanes. “During 1890 while Orville and Wilbur Wright were working in a bicycle shop, the Wright Brothers got
