Explain How The Ways Humans Behave Can Affect The Environment

Human development perspective examines the biological, psychological and social development of individuals pertaining to behavior (Hutchison, 2015). The ecological system is a theoretical perspective that examines the individual within the environment that it lives (Garbarino, 1992). There are five subsystems to consider when examining this the individual subject within this perspective; microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem and chronosystem. According to Garbarino (1992) the ecological perspective tries to explain how the environment effects the development of the individual. The ecological perspective also explores the risks and opportunities in the social environment that affect the subject within each sub-systems (Garbarino, 1992). Risk can be described as any thing that threatens development of the individual, while opportunities support and assist in the development. This paper will review the effects of the environment on an individual by applying the ecological perspective to the life and experiences main character in the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

The biosphere consists of a compound infusion of gases; the main components are oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. The concentration of these gases have been changing for many years. For the most part, this is influenced by human activity. In a persistent effort to improve the quality and longevity of life, humans (particularly in industrialized societies) have tendencies to negatively impact the environment, and at the same time, we strive to replenish what we have nearly depleted to balance the scale.

Human activity can negatively impact on the environment in different ways, which can lead to consequences which are not only bad for the environmental area affected, but humans too. Activities such as causing radiation leaks with nuclear meltdowns and dumping waste are just some examples of how humans can worsen their own environment.

Ecosystems is the dynamic complex of plant, animal and micro-organism communities and their non-living environment that work together to form a functional unit and they are constantly changing due to the fluctuating equilibrium from natural stress and human action which has had adversarial impacts on ecosystems. This is evident in Minnamurra rainforest as human induced modifications and environmental stresses had resulted in a vulnerable ecosystem. Furthermore, the removal of factors that contribute to the vulnerability of an ecosystem is important as it affect the functioning of the ecosystem as processes are accelerated, biodiversity is decreased which greatly affects humans. Despite the negative effects caused by humans, they have discovered that ecosystems are susceptible from harm caused by natural environmental factors or human impacts and realised the importance of protecting and managing ecosystems therefore have implemented management strategies that are supposed to prevent further detriment and as a consequence may induce resiliency.

People in the world today don’t really take into effect the way they hurt the environment. People don’t care where they throw their garbage or burn chemicals that are unhealthy, yet it could hinder your health ultimately. The earth is a wonderful and beautiful place. People have to take care of it for the next generation to come, or how will people survive on a planet that has toxic environment. Let me explain: what experiences I have had, Persistent challenges, education, religious beliefs or influences that shaped my world today.

In the world we live in the environment and those who live in it are all influenced by one another. These influences can often be positive like when a bird helps to pollinate a flower or negative like when humans dump toxins and other chemicals into oceans or rivers, which then kill the animals living in it and also the animals that consume those sea animals. Nowadays humans have more of a negative affect on the environment rather than a positive one, however some people are trying to turn things around before things get too bad. In Ecotopia by Ernest Callenbach, “Pump Six” by Paolo Bacigalupi, and the short film Mr. Green we see how the relationship between humans and the environment has impacted one another. Ecotopia is set in a futuristic period where Washington, Oregon, and Northern California have seceded from the rest of the United States and have formed their own country called Ecotopia.

I find the environment to be at times harsh, cruel, and unforgiving. I try to do what I can for the environment whenever I can. The environment is a crucial part of the human race. I will always treat the Earth as I treat my own family.

Nearly everything that a human does is in response to the environment. Our lives are defined by what is around us and what we find in front of us, whether this means accepting, dealing with or changing it. This has been the pattern since primates first stood up and became Homo erectus, and has continued until we considered ourselves doubly wise. The shape of the land affected where humans moved. Weather was something with which to contend. Fire affected humans until they conquered it – and herein lies the core of the relationship. The earth affects humans, and humans affect it back, viewing characteristics and patterns as problems and challenges, and finding a solution.

These perspectives are anthropocentric or human centered and view all non-human life as less important than humans themselves. Environmental ethics challenges these beliefs by questioning the assumed moral superiority of human beings to members of other species on earth (SEP, 2008). Preservation of the environment is essential to the preservation of the human race.
