When working in the human service field there are many different aspects to the work that is done. Everyone involved whether a professional member or the client holds a important role to the organization. The role of the client is to allow for the organization to be able to help them in the best way possible and, to be open to making the changes needed to thrive in everyday life. The role of the professional is to provide the client with the best help that they could possibly receive. In order for the professional to complete the role that they have they must start the process in the best way possible they must collect the appropriate information from the possible client in the beginning.

A public service is a service that is funded by the government or by donations to help the government deliver its actions as effectively as possible. There are two types of public services they are statutory and non-statutory services. The difference between a statutory and a non-statutory service is that a statutory service is paid by tax payers, funded by the government and is set up by the law. They are usually uniformed and highly professional an example would be the Emergency Services and the Armed Forces. Interventions are widely used in all areas of Human Services to assist those in need meet their goals of self sufficiency. Some common interventions include reframing, the process of helping someone see a situation in another perspective, and Task-Centered Approach, the process of breaking down the problem into smaller and more manageable goals, that eventually lead to solving the original problem. Determining which intervention to use widely depends upon multiple variables such as; the problem the client is currently facing, their current emotional status, whether they have a support network or not, and their current use of coping skills. If some of the above variables are missing, it has been common practice to address these issues prior to using interventions to address the problem.

I believe social services are essential to those who are in need of help. They help people transition out of poverty. Social service programs helped me when I was growing up and to this day I still benefit from the programs that they offer. I went to head start, which helped me prepare for elementary school and through Head Start was where I learned to speak English. In high school I participated in Talent Search and now as a college student I receive help from Trio student support services. I do not know where I would find myself now if I had not received the support and guidance from these programs.
