My generation the 1990’s born youngsters, in my views these are some key challenges faced by our generation. 1. Evolution of technology: I believe we are in the golden era of technical advancement; technology is advancing at a level where we cannot apprehend what changes it might bring upon our daily lives, our generation is entirely dependent on technology , & yet we are not able to keep up with such advance developments, today’s latest tech cannot promise us being best for another year at this rate. It impacts our daily lives and challenges our way of working and living constantly. 2. Climatic catastrophes: the ever increase in industrial development and usage of fossil fuels has lead to rate of climatic changes to another level
Worldwide temperatures are rising, carbon dioxide is at a hazardous level, ocean acidification, atmosphere boundary shifts, and extreme events are just a few of the worldwide climate changes happening near and far. It is a controversial issue whether it is taking place in the present velocity because of nature or man. However, global climate changes happen naturally, but they ought not to happen at this increased rapidity; therefore, human activity is a great cause that global climate change is happening at an expanded rate. The greatest contribution of human action is the combustion of fossil fuels, which is one of the primary reasons why the carbon dioxide levels are nearing high-hazard strata. Thus, the scientific confirmation supports that the rise in carbon dioxide levels is significantly generated by people, not nature, and people are ultimately the largest contributor to the atmospheric changes; thus, human beings should implement changes to their energy sources and modify agricultural production in order to lessen the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted into the aura at the extraordinary rate it currently is passing.
Throughout the middle of the twentieth century, until now, there has been debate over the existence of climate change. Climate change is the increase of earth’s inclusive temperature of the atmosphere, and the side effects caused by rising temperatures. Climate change is caused by many reasons: burning of fossil fuels, agriculture, landfills, and deforestation. Climate change is mainly caused by greenhouse gases and humans. The effects of climate change are detrimental to earth; the effects have lead to stronger and more intense hurricanes, a rise in temperature, and the melting of glaciers(“Global Climate Change: Effects”).
A major product that we burn has become fossil fuel which becomes carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere. Such fossil fuels have been linked to Global Warming which refers to an increase in temperature through the atmosphere changing climate patters all over the world. The climate is also affected by ocean circulation, earth’s orbit around the sun, participation, and wind etc… Scientists predict that in the future polar temperatures will rise causing polar ice caps and will rise even higher in others parts of the world.
As the generation of babies born after World War II are known as the baby boomers, my generation will likely still be referred to as the millennials. This is due to many of us being born around the turn of the millennium. However, my generation was also the first to have modern technology interrogated into our academics, vehicles, and all other aspects of our personal lives.
My view of the key challenges that my generation faces are: climate change, food security and health care. The rising temperatures and changing patterns of rain are forcing plants around the world to move toward polar regions and up mountain slopes. The animals that depend on them will be forced to move, and human development and other obstacles may block the migration of both. Global warming causes droughts to become more severe, with potentially devastating consequences for agriculture, water supply and human health. Extreme heat waves caused many deaths all around the world. Diseases and pests that were once limited to the tropics, may find hospitable conditions in new areas that were once too cold for them. Moving on to food security, which
Advancement of technology has changed tremendously over the past 100 years. With new technology being developed, today’s society has become more reliant on it in order to carry out daily tasks. As the years go by, technology will continuously be updated or invented to meet the demands of individuals all across the world. Daily lifestyles, will keep changing because of the advancements in technology. For example, how we communicate, travel, and shop are just a few things to mention in how advancement of technology has changed over the years.
Over the past century there is a drastic change on Earth's Atmosphere mainly because of interference of human activities like using fossil fuels as a source of energy, and emission of greenhouse gases due to industrial processes. These activities have release a large amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases causing Earth’s average temperature to rise by 1.4’ and is expected to rise up to 11.5’F such changes can result in undesirable consequences.
Exploitive human actions damage the earth. Human’s daily habits cause rising temperatures from carbon dioxide emissions. The excessive use of coal, oil, and natural gas leads to more carbon dioxide emissions, which traps more heat causing the temperature to rise (Friedman 32). For example, in the last 100 years, scientists measured an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from 280ppm to 400ppm (124). Based on research conducted by NOAA, temperature and the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide have a strong correlation. Temperature rises as carbon dioxide rises. The growing population of the world leads to increased exponential resource consumption and growing levels of carbon
I want to talk about three reasons that climate change happens. First, you have the “greenhouse effect”, which is warm air being trapped in the lower atmosphere. Secondly, the burning of fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, increases carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The third issue is deforestation, or the clearing of land and burning of forests. How are all three of these issues impacting our environments? The Earth is becoming warmer which can hurt certain places and animals who cannot adapt to the warmer weather. With more heat comes more evaporation causing the sea levels to rise. Also, farms are being hurt with not being able to successfully grow a lot of the things that they are used to growing with their climate. Some crops cannot live in warm temperatures but instead need cooler climates. With the Earth heating up, these crops are having a lot of difficulty surviving.
greenhouse gas production from human activities. This burning carbon has overloaded our earth with detrimental effects, including severe storm, drought, massive fires, thawing of the polar caps, earthquakes, global changes in agricultural productivity and disease patterns. Thus, the dependency on fossil fuels to meet energy demands should be minimized.
The United States Environmental Association (EPA) has listed natural changes in greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations, volcanic eruptions and solar energy as some of the natural causes of climate changes on earth. However, the recent climate changes cannot be explained by natural causes alone. Research indicates that natural causes are very unlikely to explain most observed warming, especially warming since the mid-20th century. Rather, human activities can very likely explain most of that warming. These human activities are the causes of anthropogenic climate changes. The article also adds “Since the Industrial Revolution began around 1750; human activities have contributed substantially to climate change by the addition of CO2 and other heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere. These greenhouse gas emissions have increased the greenhouse effect has caused Earth’s surface temperature to rise. This is the primary reason which is affecting the amount and rate of climate change is greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.” Other activities that initiate climate changes are caused by the gas emissions from fossil fuels used to heat homes, petroleum based fuels like gasoline and diesel used for transportation and electricity production which comes from burning fossil fuels.
Our generation seems to be in trouble. People are more focused on matteralistic things than what truly matters, such as kindness, love and family. The media have detoriated into nothing more than advertisements of things we do not need, but many feel they do to feel complete. News has become nothing more than depressing stories, Tragadies need to be covered, in the news, but I feel that positive things do, as well. This generation watches television shows, which, in a false manner, teaches them what being an adult is. Instead of having responsibilities and working hard, everyone just wants as much money as possible, with as little effort that can be mustered.
“During the 20th century the Earth’s surface and lowest part of the atmosphere warmed up on average by approximately 0.6°C”, (Tolan and Berzon, 2005:91). Alongside this, man-made emissions of greenhouse gases, which also include carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have increased. This is primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels for energy, transportation and land use changes including; deforestation for agriculture. “There is strong evidence that the warming of the Earth over the last half-century has been caused largely by human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels”, (Royal Society, 2010:1, cited in Joffe and Nicholas, 2013:17).
We as a society have reached one of the most crucial time periods in the history of our world. Due to the way we have used the resources on this earth we have created a situation in which our climate is drastically changing. The burning of fossil fuels such as coal and oil has caused gases like carbon dioxide to become trapped in the atmosphere causing a natural greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has caused the earth’s average temperature to rise and has resulted in arctic glaciers melting. These glaciers had gases trapped inside them that are now being released into the atmosphere further raising the earth's temperature. Due to the way we are polluting our air we have caused global warming. This global warming has caused stronger natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires putting our society in more danger than ever before.
Climate change. A phrase that encompasses a vast wealth of information, the totality of which is difficult to fathom let alone concisely elaborate upon in a condensed format such as a course or writing assignment. Through this course, the interconnectedness with which humans influence the balance of climate change is abundantly clear. Ecosystems plants and animals depend on are all connected and influencing one another but these scales are imbalanced, mostly as a result of human activities. The web of interconnectivity in climate change is complex, but there is a reemerging consensus at it’s core that human actions, such as global development, has major ramifications and the health and welfare of people and the environment are paying the price. Those daring enough to say they aren’t influencing climate change haven’t truly examined the many facets of their lives consuming energy and in turn increasing carbon emissions that alter climate. For most, transportation is a necessity. This usage requires energy consumption, most likely in the form of fossil fuel resource depletion and in turn the generation of carbon emissions. Transportation routes by land or sea may alter ecosystems that further elevate carbon emissions. With an understanding that the topic of climate change and carbon emissions is massive at best, the aim of this assignment will be to provide the reader with a basic understanding of greenhouse gases and carbon emissions and the relation to climate change.
