In the year of 2000 when I was born many thing were happening. Things happen happening locally like money doesn't matter (“Toledo Blade”). Success was also happening early at Wynn elementary. A big national problem was happening too, two hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center. That changed many people's life and many people died that day. “It was a war against our way of life, a war of terror, and our response would dominate the decades and years to come” (“Historical Events”). Also cost of many products we need were very cheap in the 2000s like the price of milk was $2.88. Not just the bad but also happening internationally was the Olympic Games opened in Australia (“Major World Events”). Which the Olympic Games were always a big thing
There are so many events going on in the world today. There is a housing market issue, health care reform issue, and companies fighting for paid sick leave from their jobs. There are many more this is just to name a few. The housing market is going to start booming again for a short time. The health care reform created by Obama will continue to be an issue for a long time, and companies are fighting to get paid sick leave when they are ill. There are so many things that have changed in the world, and it sure is not what it used to be.
Khan-Ibarra makes another fantastic point that many things in the world that people wouldn’t have dreamed of ever changing, have changed. Things like how we get out news, now newspapers are becoming rarer and rarer. At least the original form of the newspaper is, while now there are hundreds of newspapers that are exclusively online. The way we receive and send business and personal letters are much different now too. Now you can send and receive a response to your letter in a fraction of the time it would take for the recipient to even receive the letter. Our world is changing because of technology and social media, becoming more productive as
The election of 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore showed flaws in the electoral college voting system. For example, the US Supreme Court had to make decisions that have never been made before due to “irreparable harm”. In regards to Bush, irreparable harm meant that the court cases created by the Democratic Party were harming his election. The election was decided on the state of Florida. Originally, Bush won the state with 1,784 but the margin of victory was 0.3%. A machine recount begun and completed on 10 November, but most counties did not legitimately recount the ballots. Gore requested a hand recount and was given a deadline to complete all hand recounts by Katherine Harris, Secretary of State. Before the deadline was met, she declared
1900 Versus 2000 I think that we take for granted the things that we have today. Just look at all of the innovations in technology and quality of living over the last 100 years. Back in the year 1900, things went crazy. All sorts of new inventions were coming out all of the time, and people were becoming rich beyond their wildest dreams. In my opinion, the past 100 years have left us in a completely different world.
On September 11’th 2001 on the morning hijacked by 19 Arab men 4 aircraft were all heading towards California, and used them as suicide missiles. They flew into the World Trade Center two twin towers, the Pentagon and after a long struggle with passengers crashed last down on a field. World Trade Center consisted of seven buildings, three of the buildings collapsed and the four others were damaged by the other collapsed. It is believed that the 19 Arab men, was led by the Egyptian Mohammed Atta (1968-2001) 5.
Things that happened years ago have all changed to nowadays; either by a few changes but still very similar or dramatically changed in a positive way.
Naomi Shihab Nye is a critically acclaimed writer whose poems focus on themes such as cultural differences, war, family, and change, as seen in her book, You and Yours. One poem in this collection, “Last August Hours Before the Year 2000,” is a free verse poem primarily concerned with the passage of time and how we interpret it, while also making heavy use of nature imagery. One of the major themes in “Last August Hours Before the Year 2000” is the passage of time - more specifically, the difference between how we interpret it and how it actually functions on a greater scale. Of course, the switch from 1999 and 2000 is an excellent subject to use here, since it was the turn of the new millenium.
The terrorist attacks of September 11, altered American 's perceptions of the role in the world by strongly supporting the increased spending on national security and counterterrorism. Also, Americans have become more aware of how and where to engage in the world. As a result of the attacks, the US now has a defense that totals to nearly half the global total and has military dominance over scene, air, and space. The US also has the capability to dispatch massive military power anywhere in the world making them the system shaper. You may ask yourself just have a bad or do you check on September 11, 2001 was that led to this chaos and security becoming abnormally tight you may ask yourself just have a bad do you check on September 11, 2001
Many times we think what issues in the past have nothing to do with what happens today. Sometimes problems back-then compared to now are “over-rated” but that’s not true at all. During the 20th century, people started to view life in a different perspective and were changing their attitudes. Slowly, people started to change their clothing, hair, music styles and opinions. This was a century of different opinions and change. Some issues in the past during the 20th century still apply to us today.
In 1990, elections were held in Burma where Kyi and her party won by majority. While Kyi and her supporters were happy and confident of their win and probable reforms, the military refused to accept the results of elections. She was put under house arrest while her family including husband and children were banned to enter Burma. She spent a decade in house arrest.
July 31, 2001 was a happy day for a lot of people, but for me, it was the start of war - a war for survival, a war for independence, a war for justice. Born seven and a half weeks early, I spent the first two months of my life in artificial warmth, artificial breath, artificial life, for the time oblivious to the beginnings of war.
Born in the year 2000, I am almost 27 years and in this short time I have been deprived of many things; my life is not what it used to be. NO, much has changed, I know that I should be like my friends who have fun and party every day. Yet, that is not the case. I am different, I am able to understand things others cannot.
Over $600 billion dollars spent to protect the world from nothing. January 1, 2000 was the day the power and food supplies would fail, food distribution would stop, the economy would disintegrate, nuclear missiles would launch accidentally, and people would cause mass chaos (Salem Press). At least that's what the media thought. People began preparing as soon as possible for the Y2K “Crisis”. Companies began work to fix systems and people bought extra food and supplies. But once it finally was January 1, 2000 nothing bad happened. The Y2K’s effects on the world were nowhere near as bad as the media predicted.
Hypothetically, if I was given the opportunity to change my birth to any time I wish, I don’t think I would choose to change it. Being born in the late 90’s allowed me to grow up during the highpoint of cultural evolution in the United States. Through my life I’ve come to see new technology evolve into mobile devices, but I can also recall the time when my family got an anchored PC and it was the climax of my year. The time of my birth has allowed me to witness woman’s rights grow into a topic of discussion and the grant for every person, regardless of sexuality, to acquire a marriage license around the entire country. I have been lucky to recognize the world-shaping inventions young adults have dedicated their early lives to creating, which
This year, most of the world is preparing to celebrate the year 2000 and the coming of a
