Agreeing objectives is essential for a team or individual to know what they are focusing on to avoid wasting resources and time. Knowing the How, What, When and Why of an assignment will mean being able to complete the task in a timely manner and correctly.
It is essential that there is effective communication to build an effective team. Effective teams need to work well together and that team cohesiveness depends on building strong relationships among team members. Communication is crucial and is driven by the team leader who will work with the team to establish ground rules and work to bring the team together so that it can accomplish its goals. All teams will go through expected stages of development, from forming to storming to norming and eventually performing according to Tuckman. Navigating through these stages effectively will help teams build relationships which in turn improves communication. Effective team communication can lead to both personal and professional development. Effective communication is way in which people communicate towards each other. There are wide ranges of ways that communication can take place for example one to one conversations, group conversations. This can either be informal or formal depending on the individual’s outcome. Agree with team members the tasks they have been set and ensure they are confident and trained to carry them out. Ask for suggestions and brainstorm for idea’s from the team and allow them to have an input as long as it is safe and possible to do so.
Within any successful team, you will find leaders, it need not be the manager, and it doesn’t have to be the same person all the time, you only have to look at any successful sports team to see that there are numerous leaders and within the team each person knows the role they have to perform at any set moment and can change as the situation needs. This has been well explained in the Belbin Team Architecture.

A leader should not hold all the power of leadership to themselves, but give it away to the team, because that is the only way to empower them. A good leader always take the blame, but never takes the credit, he gives that to the team. A team should be working together to achieve the goal while being united, like a family.

Communication is the conveyance and flow of ideas from one person to another. The exchange of information takes place through letters, words, symbols and nonverbal behaviors. It involves the transmission of ideas from the sender to the receiver. Communication is effective only if the receiver fully understands the transmitted information. Many problems and failures occur in organizations due to poor communication. Objective and goals fail due to misunderstandings in the organization. Effective communication provides a chain of understanding to all participants in the organizational framework. It promotes the flow of information both vertically and horizontally.
