There are many reasons as to why I'm interested in the YWC. Firstly, I would like to better my occupational knowledge by using this opportunity to learn about all the career paths in the science department. I've learned over the years that even if you have an occupation plan, it always helps to learn about more jobs since as we grow as people, we may find our interests change with us. I feel that by attending the Princeton young women's conference, I'll get a better idea of what occupations are out there by talking with professionals and other young women of my age that will participate in this event. It will also allow me to get a better understanding of what jobs in the STEM field really entail. Another reason I would like to attend this …show more content…
It will also better me to understand more about the people who will be working with me in the STEM field one day. Perhaps we'll even be able to learn from each other about our respective fields and different aspects of them. Thirdly, I believe that by meeting professionals in the field will teach me even more about the STEM field. Although I've learned much about STEM from a textbook, meet the professionals themselves would help me better understand. I am a very hands on learner, so although I learn well from a book, talking to people who do this for a living will really add another dimension into what the STEM field is really like. Plus, the professionals at the event will most likely teach me new things about the field that I wouldn't have known about for a very long time. I also believe from the website that there will be many activities within this event to help teach us about the other aspects of the STEM field. Learning about things in the book and then doing activities really helps cement those concepts into my mind. Finally, I believe that this event would be a great learning experience in
We are encouraged to be creative and hone our skills in an area of interest through these programs in STEM. Similar to having a major in college, students at a magnet school have a specialized area that they can take classes in, along with the basic academic courses. The senior internships allow for a deeper, hands-on, understanding of a topic that we are deciding to dedicate our lives to. Wheeler’s courses are well designed to challenge and guide students, allowing them to excel in the future. Students who are in this program are encouraged to regard events from many points of view and be more open minded, advancing us in life by interactions and communications.
I’m interested in attending USNA Summer STEM because I have a strong interest in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I plan on attending the United States Naval Academy and graduate as a Nuclear Reactor Engineer and serve my country for life. I have made strong connections with the staff at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and want to make great connections with the staff, cadets, and shipmates I’d be working alongside with at the academy. I hope to serve my country with Honor, Courage, and Commitment in the STEM field of the U.S. Navy.
I am interested in attending the USNA summer STEM program because I have the desire to one day attend the United States Naval Academy and for my love of science, biology in particular. I believe that gaining the exposure to the academy's campus and the various STEM activities provided will cause me to become even more determined in reaching my goals. I also bring the aspect of military lifestyle and the long term future goal of becoming an officer in the United States Navy into my reason of interest in the program. I would be very proud and honored to graduate from the academy and go on to serve in the United States Navy, fighting for, and retaining the freedom many before me have fought to gain and protect. In potentially increasing my knowledge
Last year I had the opportunity to work as a Tech Trek student counselor and I found the experience to be invaluable, not only as a student but as a woman in STEM. My time working with tech trek actually motivated me to pursue a career in environmental conservation education, because I thoroughly enjoyed working with the girls and being able to motivate them to explore the sciences. I am a strong supporter of having more females in STEM, and have worked to create events on campus which focus on the multitude of opportunities within the STEM field for women. As a female I understand that representation matters, and in many cases can play a big role for young women. As a participant in Tech Trek I can provide these young women with a mentor/
I would like to be a part of the Wheeler Magnet Program because it will be able to challenge my intelligence and allow me to view subjects from many different perspectives. I feel that students should be encouraged to look at things from many points of view and be more open minded. This will allow us to advance further in life by interactions and communications. I have always had a love for science and a want to pursue and obtain information that allows me to better understand the world and the events within it. A STEM program will let me participate and focus on the major subjects that affect my future, both in and outside of school.
More than 2,000 qualified young adults apply to participate in the annual Naval Academy Summer Seminar but only 850 of said applicants are selected to participate in each of the sessions. Knowing that the summer seminar deals with STEM and the Navy, I quickly applied myself so I can be one of those 850 selected young adults and participate in a science, technology, engineering, and math-loving atmosphere. I am interested in attending the Naval Academy Summer Stem program because I live and breathe science and engineering. I want to continue my path to higher education through the Naval Academy one day.
I would love to attend Wake STEM Early College High School because I believe it will give me a head start on my learning after the high school level. Your program will improve my college experience and save thousands of dollars in college tuition by giving me an associates degree and high school diploma upon graduation. I am also exceedingly interested in a career in science or mathematics. I have always been focused on learning science and math because it is something I love to do and I can have a successful career in the future by using those skills. I understand that attending this prestigious school will require a certain level of maturity and willingness to work hard. As an 8th grader at West Lake Middle School, I am a member of the National
I have been interested in Technology and certain aspects of Science since I was a child. As I became older I came to a realization of how much I love Technology; I began to excel in my technology and engineering classes but not do as great in my science classes. I began to loathe science as I took upon the love of Engineering. As I have researched different types of engineering in previous years, I have stumbled across Agricultural and Environmental Engineering. I have decided instead of seeing science a challenge I cannot overcome I should work harder to be better at the subject. Therefore, I can combine my love for the planet and horticulture with my love for technology and engineering. Having an internship at USDA as a Senior will further help me achieve my goal of having a career in the STEM field. I feel having an Internship my senior year will cause me to further succeed as the research I will hopefully be doing can cause me to grasp a better understanding of the different types of careers open to me in the future.
For me, to participate in the WAS program would be an inspiring and empowering experience. Engineering piqued my interest above other professions. It matters immensely to me because I want to make an impact, and engineering holds the power of making a difference. I’m eager to work with other talented people and be involved in bringing all the wonders of the future to reality. It’s amazing to know you’re contributing positively to society, and it’s important that I’m proud of my work.
Her goal is to have Dreams Soar partner with strong female role models at each of her stops and together she wants to promote the importance of the STEM education program. I think that what Waiz is doing is a great thing not only is she showing that no matter if you come from nothing you can still succeed in your wildest dreams if you reach for the stars. Waiz has said many times how did she get so lucky especially coming from the background she did, which was being born in a refugee camp and living in an underprivileged school district in the states as
STEM gave the tools and skills necessary to apply to amazing internship and encourage me to be an outgoing student. While in high school I participated in clubs such as civil engineering and animal rescue club where I helped collect $500 in donations for dogs in the BARCS Animal Shelter by selling chocolate bars. I have also participated as a member in the National Honors Society where we commit to scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Taking advantage of all these experiences helped make me develop and mature as a person.
I would like to attend the SEED Program because it is going to be a great opportunity to see the school and experience the Brandeis community first hand. The SEED Program is going to be shedding light on some very important topics that I find very interesting and have been involved with in the past few year. As a Latina attending a predominantly white school I know what it is like to bring awareness to topics such as diversity. I also know what it feels like to be criticized and mocked for being a “social justice warrior” and I would love to attend a program where these topics are brought up and taught instead of being mocked. At school I have worked alongside others in strive to create a community that can be inclusive and aware of all the
I am very interested in attending this NASA experience because I feel like it will give me a look into what it is like to work in the Aerospace field as well as valuable experience working on a team in a professional setting. Networking is also a reason why I want to attend this NASA experience. It has always been a child hood dream of mine to work at a facility like NASA by attending this experience I will get to know scientist and engineers and could help me through a hiring process or internship in the future. NASA has always fascinated to me and I cannot wait for the chance to go a
1. Conference presenting is reflexive. By contribute to the field, you learn from the field. Conference presentations offers you the opportunity to share your program, research, or knowledge regardless of its current developmental stage (e.g., creation, implementation, evaluation, revision). Through the presentation Q&A session or after your presentation, there are opportunities to engage with your peers and receive constructive feedback and different perspectives that you had not previously considered. This will help you continue to develop and improve your program or research, and expand your knowledge base. Additionally, the other breakout sessions will provide more opportunities to engage
As a woman who has been active in many aspects of the STEM community over the years, from robotics to physics to automotive technologies, i can see the value in having a designated mentor to rely on. I've had informal mentors over the years but, looking back i can see how impactful a program like WiSTEM would have been when i was just beginning to really struggle with prejudice associated with the STEM fields.
