Explain Why Is Gatby Really Great In The Great Gatsby

Is Gatsby truly great? Gatsby was truly great because he was incorruptible. NOTHING could stop Gatsby from following his American Dream which was of an amazing and long lived life with Daisy, the woman who he has loved for years. For instance, Gatsby started off poor and had to struggle through life with hardly anything in his name. Gatsby is in love with Daisy and she is in love with him, but because he had to leave for the army, they couldn’t marry each other. Gatsby had to join the army and when he went to war, Daisy married Tom who was a well known and rich stockbroker from New York, who gives Daisy a life of which she is accustomed to live with his old money. He was not her first choice of course and she almost didn’t go through with marrying him because she was still deeply in love with Gatsby. The problem, with Tom, is that he is cheating on her, something which Gatsby could never dream of doing. When Gatsby returns from the war, he notices that Daisy has married the rich man who lived in East Egg. Gatsby, who was very confused because he thought that she was going to wait for him, does not worry too much about not getting her back, he is very sure she will be his. He became rich by bootlegging and bought a huge house in West Egg just so that she would see it and know that he was doing good enough to fulfill her needs and marry him. Although luring one's wife into marrying him was not the right thing to do, it does make Gatsby great in some aspects. It
