Should cellphones be allowed in school? Well, this is a controversial topic. There's two sides to this argument and many parents and teachers demonize cell phone usage in school, parents complaint to teachers to ban cellphones, that their kid is using his phone too much and the teachers blindly follow suit. Without even looking at the advantages of having cellphones, for the sake of their jobs they just put the ban. This punishment hurts even those who can use their phones responsibly. Why should the people who can control themselves have to be punished because their are people who can't. He is a Naval Academy graduate and Rhodes Scholar and has spent many years observing public school classrooms. The article “Do Cell Phones Belong in the Classroom?” states that lack of preparation for a class has been just one negative consequence these cell phone users experience (Earl). Sometimes even he or she will start writing on the board. Students see that as an opportunity to take their phones out and send an instant message to friends, watch a vine, listen to music, or tweet. After some time, the teacher will notice the usage of cell phones. By that time he or she gives out a warning about the use of cell phones, the phones will disappear with unwilling obedience until the next chance is presented. There needs to be more discipline in a classroom and students need to be inspired and motivated by wanting to learn. “ Percent of teens who take their cell phone to school, school policy, 2009” shows

Many teachers today would like the ban lifted so that the phone can be used as a teaching tool and not labeled as a distraction. (Rapp, David. “Lift the Cell Phone Ban.” Scholastic, Scholastic Administrator, 2008. Accessed 14 May 2017.) If a U.S law were passed, the ban would be lifted. School systems fail to realize that phones are more useful than the outdated books. When there are fewer resources in schools, there are more students needing to use the devices. Why not put the devices up for the test? Phones are here for a reason.
