Greek Life is a very complex part of college campuses. While many schools have a strong Greek Life presence, others play a very small part on their campus. The same can be said when it comes to whether or not fraternities and sororities have a positive reputation or a negative reputation on campus and in their local media.
Throughout my exploratory essay, I found that there are many different perspectives when it comes to Greek life. I as a member of Greek life myself, feel that the positive aspects outweigh the negative. There are many positive advantages that come from being a part of Greek life. There are an abundance of networking opportunities that come from Greek life along with all of the incredible friends that you make throughout the recruitment experience. One may also gain leadership skills from being a member of the executive council and having to lead their chapter on a day to day basis. Being a member of Greek life also pushes you to be more involved on campus as well as in the community. Each Greek organization has a philanthropy that they support
Greek myths are stories that explain the meaning of life and teach moral lessons through the values of heroes, gods and mortals. In Ancient Greece, myths were an important part of the culture, first being told orally and in poems, then seen in architecture and theatre. Homer, the Greek poet, wrote epic poems such as the Iliad and the Odyssey, which are still revered and read extensively today. Greek myths have carried over to contemporary American culture, appearing in movies, children’s toys, clothing and books and the values of Greek myths are entrenched in today’s society. Notably, heroism is a prominent value that plays a major role in Greek mythology and continues to influence American culture today, as heroes inspire society with their nobility, bravery and patriotism.
Annually, the Robert Morris University Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council co-sponsor the “Robert Morris University Greek Week” for all university affiliated chapters. Essentially, Greek Week is a designated week in the spring academic semester full of planned activities and events for chapters to compete against one in a rather surprisingly friendly environment. Altogether, coordinating the events and activities associated with Greek Week is the Greek Week Committee composed of two representatives from each of the four Panhellenic chapters, seven Interfraternity chapters, and three National Pan-Hellenic chapters, totaling 28 representatives. In turn, the Greek Week Committee is headed by an Executive Board composed of the

When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.
I was running down the field against Inter Lakes biggest rival Moultonborough. As the ball floats through the air heading towards the goalie I know I can reach, but I knew it would be close. As I approached the now rolling ball, I realize that the goalie would make it just before me. Desperate for a goal I go to the last resort and decide to slide for the ball. I slide as quickly as possible which resulted in me getting the slightest of touch on the ball that it slips past the goalie. I now realized that I had a chance to score the goal I had worked for since the beginning of the game. With the goalie out of position, I go to propel my body back up with my hand. As my hand hits the frozen fall ground it bent back and the sound of my bone braking ran through my body.

Survivor, one of the first successful reality shows, is a show that puts a selected group of people in a beautiful setting leaving them to fend for themselves within the two different teams. Every week the two teams compete for rewards and immunity before someone is voted off at the end of each episode. The shows main theme is how the different people interact with one another, and since the theme of the show is outwit, outplay, and outlast there is plenty of drama to go around on the show. After almost ten seasons the show can’t just rely on the same premise that the show has been using for the four years it has been on the air so the producers have to rely on something else, sex.
