The school day should begin at 7:30 and end at 2:30. Peoria Notre Dame should start classes at 7:30 and end them at 2:30 because it would give students more free time after school. Many pupils have a job after school. They also have a lot of homework. When school ends at 3:05 it can be difficult for students to study and do other activities. If school ended at 2:30 students would be able to accomplish their tasks in a timely manner. Mr. Simmons, you should make the start time 7:30 and the end time 2:30 because most students are already in the building by 7:30. They come early to attend meetings, finish homework, and talk with friends. Another reason they are in the building so early is because parents have to be at work early. Many parents
Most students when the wake up feel drowsy or tired because they have to go to school before 8:00 am. Schools should have later start times for many reason some include that they just need more sleep and that if they do not get enough sleep it could be dangerous.
One reason later start times should be introduced to more schools is the health benefits it can cause students around the world. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease control recommend that middle and high schools start
Think about this, you wake up at 8:00 am and start school at 9:00 am. Awesome right? Wrong! According to the article, “Should School Start Later,” “Not everyone is in favor of earlier start times. Many school districts say they would present big challenges.”
First, students could get more sleep. If start times were later then it would give students more time to sleep. Sleep helps the body perform better. According to “Should School Start Later?”
First of all, schools should not start later because that would mean that they would
School should start later. Waking up at six in the morning to get ready for school really makes kids mad. They have to go through the rest of their day doing work when they feel tired and just want to go back to bed. But what if they didn’t have to wake up that early because school started later? Why do school start at 8 in the morning? All it does is make kids not want to be there. A lot of people say that school should start later. Later starting would mean that kids get enough sleep, they
School's starting at 7:30 a.m. is an appropriate time, but having school start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. can be a lot more beneficial to students. School starting early in the morning can cause many harmful things to teenagers. Getting little to no sleep causes teenagers to be more forgetful and it limits their ability to learn. It can also lead to depression, aggressive behavior, obesity, drug and alcohol use, and sleep deprivation. Research shows that a later start time is generally a little more effective for students. Having Central Valley High School start at a later time would provide many positive outcomes to better adolescent's school work, safety, and their overall health.
O’Neill says, “Later start times would mean some districts might have to invest in additional buses and drivers, which can be expensive,” (O’Neill 21). But, if it helps the students in academics and health, it is certainly worth it. Last, some say that changing the school’s starting time sends the wrong message. O’Neill writes, “Being on time, managing a busy schedule, and getting enough sleep are important skills teens will need when they enter the workforce,” (O’Neill 21). Regardless, students are teenagers.
Imagine you are experiencing a deep sleep with your favorite dream streaming like a movie, when all of a sudden your alarm clock goes off. Knowing you have to wake up is horrid, but can’t you simply press the snooze button for a few more minutes? Wrong! I know that same feeling of reluctance, but sadly the days don’t wait, and we all must wake up. However, children these days don’t get enough sleep, and would benefit tremendously from a few extra hours. I believe that if the school day started a few hours later, students would be more alert, process more knowledge, and produce better work.
Starting school at later times makes students more likely to pay attention in class. The California Academy of Sciences says, ¨Studies have shown that middle and high school students with adequate amounts of sleep, 8-10 hours, have better test scores. ¨ Since students do not get enough sleep, it would be very beneficial to start school at later times, since they would fall asleep with the correct amount of sleep. To add on to this reason, Diana Zuckerman Ph.D. says, ¨In order to compensate for the later start time, the school cut 5-10 minutes of every class and activity. The change meant students had slightly less time in the classroom, but the tradeoff was improved attention during the school day.¨ Although starting classes at later times
Later start times would give students and teacher the opportunity to get the proper amount of sleep they need. Later start times give the students and the teacher’s time to prepare for the day and more time to sleep. Schools can research the benefits of starting schools later and have a ruling on if they want to start schools later. One step to try and put the system in to place is to talk to other students and gage to see how they feel about their start times and ask if the district needs to start later. Second thing is if you have multiple people wanting a latter that says to have later start times have that group.
So, let’s pretend that you are a parent with a high schooler in the house. He’s really tired in the morning and he has a lot of homework to do before school. School starts at 7:50 a.m. It’s 7:45. He’s in trouble. The grades of teens may be better if school started later, the amount of sleep loss in teens is dropping more and more, and the schools of America are starting to early. This is why school should start later.
Students are not getting enough sleep. There is either homework or after school activities keeping kids from getting the right amount of sleep they need. The author states that, most kids are going to bed at 10 p.m. or later on school nights, even though they have to get up early the next day. Changes can be made at school to adjust to students’ sleep patterns. Some ways schools can adjust to students’ sleep patterns is shifting the time to start later, giving less homework or less after school programs, schools could also end sooner.
75-100% of schools in 42 states start before 8:30 and only 17.7% start at 8:30 or later. After school sports times will change because of the later start time. People will go to sleep later and complain just like they do now so it won’t matter if we change the start time. Some kid’s parents go to work early in the morning so they won’t have anyone to take them to school. East Porter County School Corporation shouldn’t change their start time for the 2016-2017 school year.
