The apollo missions were like steps for the next mission. The goal at the end was to get the first man on the moon. It took in total 6 apollo missions to be able to get a man on the moon and back. The apollo missions where a great achievement for mankind and the united states. Getting a man on the moon meant that we could go to so many other planets and not just the moon.
The U.S. was so focused on the space race because it would show the world that the U.S. was the greatest. Having men on the moon would show unequal strength from the U.S. Landing on the moon would show other countries, especially Russia, that we could make big decisions and carry them out.
Living in Tennessee we are very close to Huntsville, Alabama where the rockets were developed for the space program. There is a huge museum in Huntsville where there is a Saturn 5 rocket standing up, and in a building, next to it there is one disassembled laying on its side. These are both large man made vehicles that allowed men to go to the moon. In the museum, there is a space capsule that has return from space all burned and scorched from reentry of Apollo 16.
The Apollo missions began because of political reasons not scientific reasons. There was a total of 12 astronauts that explored the moon. There were six different landing sites and they were located in the central part of the moon. This means there is much more of the moon to explore. They spent twelve and a half cumulative days on the surface of the moon, 3.4 were spent outside. Because of the different Apollo missions there we much has been discovered. Because of the studies, of the craters they were able to determine the age of the moon. They were able to learn about core and crust formation. The moon has many similarities to the earth. Through seismology studies they discovered that the moon has moonquakes like the earth has earthquakes
The significance came in reaching the moon and learning about creation. We have made discoveries on the moon so the Apollo missions
My research is about Apollo missions and how these missions changed space exploration. In the Year 1961 President John F. Kennedy committed the United States, to land men on the moon and bring them back safely to the earth. This challenge had not precedent in the history of humanity, the motivation for such ambitious endeavor according to the NASA was achieving preeminence in space, but the scientific goals were developing a program to explore the moon and man’s capability to work in the lunar environment. I think that these were some of the goals at that moment, but the consequences of these missions is more significant for the human kind. As human kind we prove that we can break bounds and we can explore beyond our earth. In this exploration
The Apollo Mission started out as an idea that John F. Kennedy came up with. He said that he would send people to the moon and they would return to Earth safely. There were many things that would have to go into this mission. For example, what was the safest way to get the astronauts to the moon? How long would it take? What do we need to do to prepare for the moon landing? All of these questions played a part in the Apollo mission.
The motives for the Apollo Missions wasn’t very original when we think about it. It was based upon the need to beat someone else. As President, Kennedy wanted to make a better reputation for America, so he created NASA. Since the US had such a bad streak before Kennedy, I suppose they asked this question: why wasn’t the rocket working? They started to borrow things from others, such as the Russians, who had had great success so far. They didn’t stop there, but tried to make the shuttles even better. With the success of several orbits, NASA looked for a more adventurous endeavor: getting on the moon. I love how they never settle for just one thing, they always push the limits. There were deaths and injruies along the way, but that happens in
It is human nature to want to explore and fathom the unknown. The decrease in attention and focus on space exploration is an issue that needs to be addressed in this country and world. Since the cancellation of the Apollo space program there have been many discoveries about the vastness of the universe but there has not been any true plans put in motion to explore our universe let alone our solar system
There was much significance of the Apollo Moon Landings. The discovery led to advances in all areas of science, technology, astronomy,
The Apollo Space program was developed to enable man to walk on the moon. The lessons learned from the two previous NASA programs, Mercury and Gemini were instrumental in gaining the ability to meet that goal. The impetus for this goal was President Kennedy’s speech to Congress in 1961 that we must have an American sent to the moon and safely back home by the end of that decade. The Soviet Union had already sent a man into space, and there were national security fears because of the cold war. What NASA scientists wanted to know from the Mercury program was could humans survive in space for an extended period of time. Through the Gemini program, they found answers to questions about orbital maneuvers, docking techniques, and spacewalks. Apollo
The Apollo missions were the project that NASA worked on. It was trying to safely get man to the moon and back. There were 17 Apollo missions. Only 6 of those missions succeeded. That is only a success rate of 35.29%. The first few flights were just testing equipment. The first manned mission was Apollo 8. All missions after 8 were manned. The missions that succeeded were 11-12 and 14-17. Many of these missions did collect photographs and data to return to earth. The first Apollo mission to land on the moon was 11. It launched July 16, 1969, landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 and returned home on July 24, 1969. A total of 12 astronauts have walked on the moon’s surface.
The topic I chose was the Apollo missions. Space exploration has always fascinated me. The Apollo missions were the first manned missions to the moon. There were a few different motivations in the purpose of these missions. A few of those purposes were to beat others to the moon, establish technology to advance other space interests, carry out exploration of the moon, and develop man’s ability to work in a lunar environment. All together there were 12 missions launched with 6 being successful in reaching the moon.
Apollo 1 was a big disaster for NASA, and tragic for their mission of going to space. Many things could have been prevented from the accident ever occurring, and no one would have died. The disaster of Apollo 1 was the first accident for NASA, because of them not looking at each equipment
NASA sent Apollo 11 to the moon not for fun, but rather to discover many things about the moon, earth, and solar system. NASA did not just go to the moon in hopes of finding something. They first had a plan of what they wanted to accomplish, and secondly hoped to find other new things. Von Braun, a main player in Apollo 11 and its directing, gave a speech on what he planned to accomplish by going to moon. He said, “What we are seeking in tomorrow's trip is indeed that key to the faith on earth” (Von Braun 224). He also said that the mission would help expand the mind of man and was “equal in importance to that moment when aquatic life came crawling up onto the land” (Von Braun 207). In other words, this is a very important moment in our history that is supposed to help us know more than we already did. This just shows that the men headed to explore the moon had a purpose, adding to the value of the
