Based on the Super Tracker I would improve my diet by including more minerals, protein, and dietary fibers. I also need to reduce the amount of sodium I take in. To improve my mineral intake I will include more vegetables like broccoli and carrots to raise my vitamin C and beta-carotene. To elevate my protein I could try to plan my meals ahead to include more protein for my busy weeks. Adding to go protein yogurts could greatly help raise my protein levels. Lastly just adding 2-3 more apples to my diet can help to raise my dietary fiber levels.

For three days I tracked all of my meals, snacks and fluid intake on the SuperTracker website. The purpose of this was to determine and understand what I was eating and how what I put into my body directly effects it. Most nutrition labels are based on a 2,000 calorie diet, which to me seems like a reasonable amount to eat on a day-to-day basis. During certain instances in the twentieth century, such as the siege of Leningrad, and during the Khmer Rouge’s reign in Cambodia, populations lived off diets of only 1,000 calories a day. This is a ridiculous amount considering the fact that nutrition labels are recommending you eat twice this amount. I counted the calories I personally ate over the past three days to gauge were I stood compared to those who had to eat 1,000 calories. Using a nutrition tracking application on my phone, I discovered that I tend to eat close to the same amount of calories each day. I ate 2533, 2452, and 2462 calories on each of the respective days. I also tracked how these calories broke down into the three main macronutrients. On average, over the three days, I ate around 300 grams of carbs, 50 grams of fat, and 190 grams of protein. I tend to eat more than the recommended amount because I consciously tell myself to eat a lot and to aim for foods that are high in protein. I usually eat four meals a day because I go to the gym almost every day and in order to stimulate proper muscle growth and maintain my energy at the gym, I need to eat a lot of food. Considering how much I eat, it is evident to me that my body would undergo several metabolic, physical, and emotional deficiencies if I underwent a 1,000 calorie diet.
