Exploring : Causes And Effects Of Global Warming

Global warming is a worldwide natural phenomenon in which the world average temperature slowly increases. This increase in temperature leads to certain problems around the world, such as rising sea levels and more frequent and intense heat waves. This paper will explore the causes and effects of global warming, and finally conclude with a few solutions that could delay global warming. One main cause of global warming is the “greenhouse effect”. According to NASA, this can be described as warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Certain gases in the atmosphere, such as nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide, sit in the atmosphere, helping block heat from escaping. Human activities such as biomass burning and the use of commercial and organic fertilizers increase nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. Human activity such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels contribute to adding carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This directly ties in to the next cause of climate change, rising carbon dioxide levels. Another main cause of global warming is rising carbon dioxide levels, which directly ties to deforestation. Green plants take in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use it for photosynthesis (Jennings 22). By destroying forests, humans interfere with the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. An example of this was back in 1987, when an area of the Amazon rain forest the size of Britain was burned, which released 600 million
