Exploring ADHD transition into childhood to Adulthood Education Introduction During the past 60 years, many different terms have been used to describe what we now call ADHD, (Barkley, 2006 ). Over the past decade, many researchers have conducted empirical studies to deepen our understanding of ADHD as well as identify evidence-based strategies for assessing and treating individuals with the disorder.( Lisa L. Weyandt, ‎George J. DuPaul - 2012).Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is believed to be a chronic disorder that affects a significant proportion of the child, adolescent, and adult population. Scientist still do not know of its root causes but attribute it to a chemical imbalance in the brain. My motivation for choosing this topic for my dissertation is due to reflecting back on my own educational experience as someone who always had a deep rooted interest in acquiring knowledge and learning I often found myself day dreaming in class unstimulated and easily bored. After much research and reading about ADHD. I found that I identified with many of the symptoms. Thereafter I decided to pursue it further after taken a screening test at the Roehampton dyslexia centre. I was sent for referral to the claybrook NHS Mental Health for further assessment ,though still in the process of seeking diagnosis Unfortunately, for me I feel it is at a later stage in my educational journey and it is not uncommon that many are living with the condition unaware.
