Exploring Intelligence and Financial Security Albert Einstein, a well-known physicist once said, “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” (“A Quote by Albert Einstein.”). Intelligence has been a defining factor in one’s ability to flourish in today’s ever-changing world. The key to obtaining a high IQ, something that is commonly found in the most successful people in history, is plain; intelligence is generally made up of genetic, as well as environmental factors. This leaves it up to the individual to take responsibility and make up for any lacking abilities not granted to them by their heredities. The purpose of education is evident, to increase one’s readiness for the future and prepare one to be successful in whatever career chosen. Education has the power to increase one’s knowledge and skill, allowing one to be a better problem solver, become more aware of current events, and essentially, giving one the capability to make a change (Selingo). Some may argue that education is unnecessary and that one can certainly be successful without it. However, education has the ability to secure one’s future financial stability and increase one’s chances of employment. In “Schooling, Intelligence, and Income”, it has been found that “College graduates will earn $812,000 more than high school dropouts, and graduate students with professional degrees will earn nearly $1,600,000 more than college graduates” (Ceci and Williams 1051). Education is often considered a marker of someone’s intelligence, therefore, education shows employers whether one is especially equipped and qualified for the job (Ceci and Williams 1051). College’s purpose is to allow one to explore possible careers and majors, eventually focusing and becoming qualified in one single field (Selingo). One cannot be expected to be successful in a field without the necessary skill, training, and knowledge required, and this is where college is helpful.
