The attack on the Sony Play Station Network was an external extrusion. This is when hackers were able to force their way into the system and receive access to 77 million accounts. They contained sensitive information on their customers. This enabled cliental to play different video games against other users around the world for a nominal fee. (Stewart, 2012) These events started on April 17th and lasted until the 19th. On April 20th, Sony shutdown their network in order to prevent these breaches from becoming worse. The outage lasted until May 24th. This is when they issued a patch to customers and restored services back to normal. (Stewart, 2012)
Indicate what explanation Sony officials gave for the length of time that had passed from the start of the attack to when the general public was made aware of the details. The explanation that Sony gave is that it took time to bring in computer forensic experts and understand the overall scope of the damages. Once this was discovered, is the point they shared what was learned with customers.
