Extracurricular activities have shaped who I am today. Every activity that I participate in represents a social group whose members share a common goal that binds us in a special way. The shared goal enables a joint discovery of values and attitudes while building life skills that is required to be successful in all walks of life. Outside of classes, I have made a conscious effort to improve my knowledge and develop skills by participating in community services, student government, internships, professional development conferences and workshops, cultural activities, athletics, school club activities and by taking advanced community college coursework.
One of my goals when starting high school was to develop my leadership and communication

During the early phase, I was focused on fundraising, growing the membership base and promoting club activities. Our membership increased from five to fifty students over three years and continues to climb. My other responsibilities are to periodically hold game competitions and conduct training workshops on android programming and game design. As president of video game development club, I picked up marketing, presentation, and motivational skills. Another club I participate in and have a leadership role is the Robotics club. In the Fall of 2014, I started as a programmer in the software systems control group, having responsibility for coding the motor control functions and IR sensor subsystem. I was quickly promoted to a team lead beginning Spring 2015 to help train and assist my colleagues with coding. In the Fall of 2015, I was again promoted as program manager of the Systems Control Group having the responsibility to deliver software for the annual FRC competition. Besides coding, my other responsibilities are interfacing with industry mentors, preparing training materials, and conducting workshops. I am also involved in the cybersecurity club as team lead and am responsible for training members to stop simulated computer hackers and coach them on fixing website vulnerabilities. The cybersecurity and robotics groups have helped me become a better …show more content…
Balabhavan is my extended family. People dressed in "sarees" and "Kurta-pyjamas", wearing red dots on their forehead and amulets around the wrist and greeting each other with a Namaste are the norm. Together, we perform "Puja's", sing "Bhajans" and discuss "Vedanta" to reinforce traditions, rationalize rituals and understand our customs. I have been active for more than four years in these activities participating on a bi-weekly basis for about two hours at a time. At Balabhavan, I assist with coordinating the meetings, sending email updates, preparing sandwiches for monthly distribution, and planning and partaking in annual dance and drama cultural events. In addition to Balabhavan, I also help with coordinating a semi-annual event promoting Telugu culture through the San Diego Telugu Association (SANTA). As a coordinator, I am responsible for managing backstage logistics, validating tickets, and helping the audience with seating. I have been active in SANTA since eighth grade. Through this deep cultural immersion, I no longer feel a need to wipe the red dot, or remove an amulet when I’m at school. Instead with pride, I patiently explain my culture, and by doing so, I can win over even my worst critics. By getting involved in SANTA, I have learned to conquer my stage fears and have used it as a platform for creativity giving me
In my point of view, extracurricular activities are what shape a student into what they are or become. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization that helps students obtain the leadership, hands on, professional, and employability skills that America is searching for. Although at first, students do not find this extracurricular activity as interesting as a sport, they fail to recognize that this organization is for students and ran by students. As Pope John Paul II said, “The future starts today, not tomorrow.” Today, I know that SkillsUSA is helping me take a step closer to what I want to do in my
In addition of these qualities, I am an active participant within the extracurriculars in my school. While in 9th grade, and 10th grade, I participated in many activities, as indicated in the packet attached to this essay. And, outside of school, I enjoy going to piano and art lessons. Through the collected efforts of these activities, I have gained crucial knowledge and other attributes that helped me contribute to society, and to become a better leader.
Throughout the duration of my high school career, I have participated in a multitude of various extracurricular activities including Varsity volleyball, club volleyball, National Honor Society, Key Club, and Mathletes. I believe that I have involved myself in this wide range of activities in order to enjoy the company of individuals who appreciate the importance of both academics and athletics as much as I do. Personally, academics have always been a top priority of mine as a result of my parents placing such a significant importance on grades as a child. Consequently, I have participated in organizations such as National Honor Society and Mathletes where I surround myself with others similar to myself that follow a certain academic standard.
My involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me grow as a person over the past four years of high school. I have learned how to be more responsible, reliable, as well as how to be a team player and work well with others. I enjoyed playing softball and CYO volleyball and basketball. I knew it was not just about the game I was also about the people. I did my best to help my teammates.
The goals I proposed throughout high school helped me give back to society and developed me as a person. When I decided to dedicate myself to extra-curricular activities it wasn’t simple because I faced financial difficulty within my family and living in a single parent household but I managed to take on the challenge of balancing the difficult environment I was raised in and achieving my educational goals.
I stay actively involved in many extracurricular activities. I am a member of FCCLA, Yearbook,
Since Early College High School was founded in the year 2006, the school and its students have always been at disadvantage. The school has lacked several opportunities such sports, scholarship opportunities, etc. However, a topic that has been the spotlight of discussion amongst students over the course of eleven years has been the lack of extracurricular activities. This problem does not only affect students, but it rather affects faculty members as well. Although there has been a slow but gradual increase in solving this problem, this change has come forth at a lengthy rate. It has been 11 years since change has been prompted, and although the current students are benefiting from this change, there have been several generations of
As I worked my way through middle school, I would have never imagined that I would be as involved as I am today. From academic clubs like Science Olympiad and Robotics to service clubs like National Honor Society, Student Council and Key Club, my involvement in extracurriculars has been a positive challenge in a variety of ways. Key club in particular has pushed me to improve my community, expand my social life and prepare me for my future after high school.
In general, attending extracurricular activities is great at expanding students’ knowledge that they cannot gain from a classroom, such as issues regarding a person’s culture and how they can handle those cultural issues. Attending these extracurricular activities helps build a community with people that are passionate about the same things as you or are going through similar situations and do not know how to approach these issues. After attending this event, I am excited to attend more extracurricular activities on campus, instead of going home after

Angelo State University (ASU) ensures a student has a safe and prestigious learning environment. Academics are important in a college setting, however in, order to ensure students remain able to complete their studies, campuses must allow for activities which give students the opportunity to clear their heads and prevent extreme amounts of stress. Not only will these activities aid in the ways mentioned before, but they will allow students to be able to interact with diverse peers in a non-classroom environment. Luckily, Angelo State University has various extracurricular activities that can assist in allowing students to branch out.
Extracurricular activities helped shape me to be who I am today and also taught me skills that will be necessary in the future. Such as, teamwork, time management skills, problem-solving skills, deliberating ideas, adaptability, and strong relationship skills. I learned teamwork during Sapphires because if we didn’t work as a team it did not look good and was not fun. Time-management was something acquired as you had to be able to do sports while still having enough time for school work. Problem solving skills and adaptability were both learned in junior executive as the prom was moved to a different vendor two days before prom. In dance I deliberated various ideas and it gave me the confidence to do so in the future. Strong relationship skills were built through clubs and sports which will make working with others and collaborating with future bosses
Over my past year here at Dalhousie, I have been very involved extracurricular wise. Immediately starting the school year, I joined the council for my residence and got the position of marketing representative. This position required me to help promote events around residence; in doing so, I would design and organize posters for each event.
