Facebook is one of the most common social website that connects people with their friends and family. It has a unique way of sharing information, including news feeds, photos, and many other features which makes it very popular. In the book The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company that is connecting the World, Kirkpatrick mentioned that, “Social networking has now extended across the entire planet. Facebook is the world’s largest such network. It is the rare high school and college student who does not routinely use Facebook or MySpace” (85). It is widely popular among college students because it can start the friendship with a simple request button in Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in 2004 and it has been part of the popular culture. This social network has many cool features like “liking” someone status or photos, and private messaging loved by millions of people all over the world. One can easily browse it in their phone or laptop through the Internet, which affect people’s lives in many ways including their behavior and communication skills. Facebook has maintained itself in high culture changing the way that people communicate and interact with each other online and offline. Facebook’s social impact can be viewed as both boon and burden depending how it has acted in people’s lives.
