The objective of this study was to examine factors such as age, gender, high school graduated from, and Grade Point Average (GPA) in fourth year and to identify whether these factors could distinguish differences among students based on academic performance. This study would help the college faculty know their students and would help them improve student learning and improve their academic performance. Age, secondary school graduated from, performance in high school and gender are some of the factors that affect an individual’s academic performance and are the topic of this study.
Methodology. The researchers looked into the profile of the first year Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Accountancy during the first semester 2010-2011. The profile, specifically age, gender and the school where they graduated in high school. They then computed the grade point average of the students and this represents the students’ academic performance. The researchers also surveyed the general average of the subjects of this study in fourth year high school and compared it with their academic performance during the first semester.
