Factors That Affect The Student 's Learning And Achievement

As teachers, we face different situations on a student’s lives. Our role expands much more than just reading a book and guiding the students to make predictions or connections. Part of our role functions as parents, counselor, dentist, doctor and friend. Neither to say, we spend at least 40 hours a week with the student, meaning it is crucial to know the students’ background, environment and its needs. Socioeconomic status, diversity of culture and race, standards, and family involvement are some of them and are a crucial part of the students’ growth and success in school. During this week learning, I have learned that these factors affect the student’s learning and achievement. Based on the effective literacy practices Reutzel, D. R., & Cooter, R, D. (2015), the teachers needs to know and follow the seven pillars of effective reading instructions in order to achieve gaps and the student become proficient. As a Spanish immersion teacher, one of my goals is to help the students become successful with the transition of learning another language and being able to comprehend. Therefore, to help the student achieve success I need to make sure to have authentic scenarios and understand the situation they are coming form be willing to help them no matter the situation, part of my job is to care for each and one of them.
