Few people are ever classed as divergent and it is considered to be dangerous to tell anyone about being divergent. Divergent is seen as dangerous because if the wrong people hear about it then they might attempt to take them out. Being divergent makes them a target because they are seen as stronger than everyone else. They do not fit into one group, they fit into multiple groups. Being divergent makes the person a target of anyone that finds them a threat, especially people that are seeking power. The target forces most divergent people to be quiet about the fact that they’re divergent and they usually just claim the faction that they associate themselves with. In doing so, they are usually able to not send any red flags and make people think that they’re dangerous. Anyone that tries to control the masses will have the biggest problem being the people that are divergent. She has more skills and talent than any non-divergent citizen has. Using her powers for good, she is able to take down Jeanine who was attempting to control everyone in dauntless and have them be her personal army. She freed the dauntless from the trance and stopped the
As defined by Madison, a faction is a group of people, ‘whether a majority or minority, who come together by some common impulse of passion, or of interest adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community.” Not all political groups are factions, though most are. While they are rare, there are political groups out there that are made up of people with all completely
In Divergent by Veronica Roth, Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior grows to be someone who is very different from who she was at the beginning of the novel. She has to face many obstacles in her journey to join her new faction that changes her into a completely different person. People think that Tris is weak because she is small and originates from Abnegation, which values selflessness. As initiation goes on, she slowly proves that she is not as weak as she seems, and other initiates see her as a threat to their rankings. Tris grows as an individual by becoming a braver person, strengthening herself mentally and physically, and finally realizing that she is neither Dauntless nor Abnegation.
The definition of a faction is a group of people forming a minority group within a larger group, to seek some goal within a political party or government. Madison describes faction differently in Federalist No.10, but in actuality the definitions have the same meaning. Madison’s definition is derived from a listing of requirements. Requirement number one indicates that factions are determined by the number of citizens. Citizens of a government share a common interest which makes them a
Tris was born and brought up in Abnegation where she must remain selfless and was never allowed to focus on herself. Tris has traits of multiple factions but in the choosing ceremony she chooses Dauntless faction because she feels it will allow her to discover her true self. Tris’s character underwent many changes from when she was in Abnegation to now. Being a part of dauntless gave Tris strength and bravery. In dauntless her bravery begins to flourish. Her identity develops further with every decision she makes, which eventually makes her realise that she cannot limit herself to a single identity or a faction because she has some traits of abnegation (her birth faction) and she
Essentially, a faction is a group of united people who take action as a result of a common interest and who are against the interests of others and the community.

In the next book, Insurgent, Tris finds herself hiding from the Erudite who now knows that there are many like her that can resist serums. Divergence means that your genes are immune to the serums that
Have you ever wondered how life would be like if society was divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue ? What if you were different and did not belong in any of the given factions? Then you are a lot like Tris. Tris Prior is the main character in the dystopian novel Divergent, by Veronica Roth. In the novel Divergent, Veronica Roth tells the story of the future of Chicago. Chicago is divided into five factions. Each faction is devoted to represent their people. Candors are the honest, Abnegation is the selfless, Dauntless are the brave, Amity are the peaceful and Erudite are the intelligent. On a selected day all sixteen year olds must select the faction that they will be for the rest of their lives. The main character Beatrice has to choose whether she will stay with her family who are Abnegation or be herself. The choice that she makes is surprising to everyone and herself.
Divergent thinking encourages a person to ultimately interpret things differently. It forces the person to feel uncomfortable and say “yes” to the unknown because feeling uncomfortable usually leads to growth. This is how Eli Akcali morphed into the person she is today. This new way of thinking exposed her to new and different experiences. Eli made it a personal commitment, early in her career, to say yes to everything for an entire year. The first yes took her to Turkey for an art project. It was an unfamiliar territory with an entirely new culture which intimidated Eli and made her feel like a fish out of water. Soon she accepted what was her reality and commitment, and so she stayed. After some time she realized that if she stayed committed
They are separate from all outside help and live accordingly to their own rules. Inside the city, there are different factions to separate each person in for order to be maintained. Each person is a certain way with certain qualities and that person joins the faction they find best suited for them. If they leave their faction, they are labled as factionless which is considered a dishonorable label which usually results in homelessness and starvation. The main character of divergent is Tris; when she takes the test and gets the result of being divergent, which is essentially like a jack of all trades, but an ace. She joins a faction of strength and bravery, which is called
Tris was forced to live in a dystopian society without knowing it. She grew up in Abnegation, (one of the five factions). Tris thought that all there was in life was being selfless, but there is more. Tris was tested to see what faction suits her. She had no idea what she would be. Little did she know that she was Divergent. Tris was a mix of three contrasting factions. Being Divergent is more divers than everyone else it can be dangerous but can it also be helpful? When some people read Divergent they think that it is about bravery or being selfless. I think it's about something different. In Divergent Veronica Roth displays that the book is not just about bravery. It's about being different and how being different can help you fit in.
Divergent is a very inscrutable book. It is more of a science fiction book. The plot of the story is that Divergent is the set in the future type of book. This summer I read the book called Divergent by Veronica Roth. The Reason Why I chose this book is because my friend from last years English class recomended it to me and it sounded like a book I could really enjoy reading. Divergent takes place in a futuristic society where humans are split up into groups, factions based on their personality. There is Amity (Kindness), Abnegation (Selfless), Erudite (Knowledge), Candor (Honesty), and Dauntless (Courage). Tris who is the main character does not fit in any of these categories, so she is labeled as a Divergent. Society is afraid of them, so they hunt and kill them. As an effort to hide she choses to change factions from Abnegation to Dauntless. She struggles with identity and finding herself
These are the Factionless. It is a status in which a person is not welcome into any faction. These are the people who failed to complete their initiation into whatever faction they chose and live in poverty, doing the work no one else wants to do. They are described as being homeless and even worse than death itself because the factionless have to suffer. They are mainly the garbage collectors. Janitors, and construction workers. It is a common practice for Abnegation to provide them food, clothes and medical attention. An aptitude test helps the residents to choose their faction. Through the aptitude test Tris finds out that she is Divergent, which means she can’t be categorized into one individual faction because she has an aptitude towards more than one faction. She has a potential to join Erudite, Abnegation and Dauntless. She comfortably doesn’t fit in any category so she decides to leave the faction in which she was reared (Abnegation) for Dauntless. Other than the themes of values like intelligence, selflessness, bravery, compassion, and honesty covered up by the five factions this novel encompasses various important themes like theme of Identity and choices, Fears and phobias, Societal class, Power, competition and bravery which Tris discovers throughout her journey in this
