According to The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Illustrated Manual of Ophthalmology, conjunctivitis is defined as an infectious or non-infectious inflammation of the conjunctiva. Conjunctivitis is commonly known as” pink eye”,it is one of the most common eye infection that is seen at the eye doctor’s offices. At any given week, doctors see approximately three to five patients with conjunctivitis, the numbers could be more depending on the season. The doctor will be able to determine whether the conjunctivitis is caused by a virus, bacterium, or allergen, based on patient history, symptoms, and an extensive eye exam.

Instead, it is the conjunctiva’s inflammatory response to allergens including pollen, animal dander, and other environmental antigens. It’s most consistent symptoms are redness and itching. Since allergic conjunctivitis usually occurs seasonally, just about 10% of individuals seek medical attention, then it would be safe to say this type of conjunctivitis is greatly underdiagnosed. (Azari and Barney 2013).
Facts about conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis affects many people and created many financial and social problems. It is estimated that acute conjunctivitis affect 6 million people annually in the United States. The cost of treating bacterial conjunctivitis was estimated to $377 million to $857 million per year. (Azari and Barney 2013). Majority of conjunctivitis patients are treated by their primary care physicians, rather than their eye care professionals. Studies have shown that approximately 1% of primary care visit are related to conjunctivitis and 70% of patients with acute conjunctivitis visited an urgent care or primary care. (Azari and Barney 2013) Conjunctivitis can be divided into infections and non-infections causes. Viruses and bacterial are the most common causes. Non-infectious includes allergic, toxic and inflammation secondary to immune diseases, conjunctivitis can be primary or secondary to systemic diseases such as gonorrhea, and chlamydia. If you are experiencing any of these signs it is very important to go to see your eye doctor.(Castro
Otitis Externa is most often caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Acute otitis media can be caused by bacterial or viral pathogens. Some of the pathogens associated with acute otitis media (AOM) include, S. pneumoniae, H. influenza, M. catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pyogenes. The common cold or rhinosinusitis is likely caused by rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, coronaviruses, enteroviruses, influenza and parainfluenza viruses, and respiratory syncytial virus (Burns, Dunn, Brady, Starr, & Blosser, 2013). Acute bacterial rhinosinusitis (ABRS) is a result of the S. pneumoniae, H. influenza, M. catarrhalis and/or B-hemolytic streptococci bacterias. Sore throats or acute pharyngitis is 90 percent of the time caused by a viruse. Bacterial sore throats are often a result of the group A streptococci bacteria. According to Burns et al., 2013, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, groups C and G streptococci, and Arcanobacterium hemolyticum can cause acute pharyngitis. Pathogens that typically cause infections of the tonsils include B-hemolytic streptococci, group D streptococcus, and S. pneumonia (Burns, et al., 2013). The pathogens involved in acute cervical adenitis include B-hemolytic strep, staphylococcus, B. heneslae, viruses, and atypical

Mohan Pammi, MD, PhD (2016) also stated, treatment depended on the diagnostic test results. There are so many types of treatments that can be used for C. Trachomatis induced conjunctivitis and pneumonia, but oral antibiotics are always preferable. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee on Infectious Disease and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend oral erythromycin (50 mg/kg per day given orally in four divided doses) for 14 days for either chlamydial conjunctivitis or
Conjunctivitis is an infection and/or inflammation of the conjunctival vessels, typically associated with tearing, lid edema, and clear or purulent discharge. The case here is very suspicious for conjunctivitis caused by a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacterial cause of STI in the United States. Infants that are born vaginally to infected mothers with genital disease are at risk for acquiring the infection which usually presents as conjunctivitis and/or pneumonia. The incubation period for C. Chlamydia trachomatis conjunctivitis is 5–-14 days after delivery. Presentation before five days is unusual, but has been reported in infants that are born to mothers with premature rupture of the membranes. The clinical findings of conjunctivitis can range from mild swelling with a watery eye discharge, which becomes mucopurulent, to swelling of the eyelids with red and thickened conjunctiva (chemosis, as seen in this case). A pseudomembrane may form as the exudate adheres to the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva may also be very friable which may result in bloody discharge. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee on Infectious Disease and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommend oral erythromycin, a macrolide, for 14 days for either chlamydial conjunctivitis or pneumonia. Topical therapy for conjunctivitis is NOT effective and there is a high failure rate compared with oral
Artemis was a strong, independent, and fierce figure in the Ancient Greek and Roman time period. She was the daughter of Zeus and Leto. She’s the twin sister of Apollo. She was the Greek goddess of the moon and hunting. She was also known as the protector of nature and hunt. Artemis appears in many different myths throughout Greek mythology. She also played a huge role throughout the Trojan War. Her most well known sign is the crest moon. Artemis was an adventurous and powerful goddess.
“Today John Kennedy lives on in the immortal words and works that he left behind. He lives on in the mind and memories of mankind” (Swanson 203). When Lyndon Johnson addressed this in his speech, he was exactly right. John F. Kennedy will always be in the memories of his family members, but also in all the lives of the United States citizens because he was such a tremendous president. The day John F. Kennedy died was a nightmare for not only Jacqueline Kennedy, but also for Caroline Kennedy and John Kennedy, Jr. The next months were the worst for the Kennedy family. Even though the Kennedys were devastated by John F. Kennedy’s death, they had many grateful memories to cherish in the time of mourning. In looking back upon those cherishable
The term “keratitis” refers to an inflammation of the cornea (clear covering at the front of the eye). When you look at the color of a person’s eye, you are looking through the clear cornea to the colored iris, which is inside the eye. The cornea is an extremely sensitive tissue. This is why you immediately blink when something touches your eye, or even if you think something is going to touch your eye.
In 1999, there were amendments to the Optician’s Act. The amendments aimed to provide optometrists with a wider scope of practice, which allowed them to have limited clinical management of non- sight-threatening conditions such as allergic and infective conjunctivitis. It was thought that this might have helped to reduce the burden on the National Health Service. (GOC rules and regulations. (2017)).
The palpebral conjunctiva becomes hyperemic, and distinct vesicles or bullae may occur. In many instances, a concomitant conjunctivitis appears that is characterized by watery discharge with mucoid strands (Fig 16-13). Secondary infection, most commonly withStaphylococcus species, may develop. In severe cases, a membranous or pseudomembranous conjunctivitis may result from coalescence of fibrin and necrotic cellular debris. Symblepharon formation may occur with severe pseudomembranous conjunctivitis. Primary corneal involvement and iritis are rare ocular manifestations of Stevens-Johnson

Dacryocystitis is an infection of the sac that collects your tears (lacrimal sac). The lacrimal sac is located between the inner corner of your eye and nose. The glands of the eyelids produce tears that keep the surface of your eye wet and protected. Tears drain from two small ducts in your eyelids. These ducts carry your tears to your lacrimal sac. Another tube (nasolacrimal duct) carries your tears from the lacrimal sac down into your nose.
In addition, the virtue theory is said to be properly concrete, as it grounds morality in facts about human nature in comparison to other theories which ground morality in subjective principles or in abstract principles of reasoning. In relation to human psychology, the theory is said to be more accurate as it concentrates on less conscious aspects of motivation such as habits or short-term goals. Whereas, theories such as the deontology and utilitarianism place emphasis on decision making in relation to principles or rules. As such, it is often argued that the virtue theory offers a more united and comprehensive conception of moral life, which goes far beyond ones likes and dislikes, needs and wants and, in general, what type of person
