Fahrenheit 451 Essay In Fahrenheit 451 explains and explores a world where book are illegal and if anyone has books of any kind they will be burned with the books. The protagonist of the story is a fireman named Montag and in the world of Fahrenheit 451 firemen are the ones who are called in to burn the books. The antagonist is the world of Fahrenheit 451 itself because education is really not that important and schools are really just a place where teens hangout. The setting of Fahrenheit 451 is the US and at that time there is a war going on in the story that the characters mention about. The characterization of this book is that people are really stupid and don’t have a good education which cause them to kill themselves sometimes. In this story it follows Montag and how he discovers that books are very valuable and should be cherished greatly. He sees that books have knowledge and Montag wants more knowledge but the characters in this story tell him that books are worthless and should be burned. An example of this this type of character is Beatty which is the chief of the firemen in Fahrenheit 451, he sees books as weapon that can make people crazy with knowledge. Montag being a fireman in Bradbury’s novel, however, does not mean extinguishing burning materials, but rather setting things on fire.
