Imagine a world where Technology can control you and your future. Technology is what your life consists of and will keep advancing as years go on. A dystopian environment contains all of these factors. In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, violence is normal for the way life. Montag is the protagonist who is a firefighter unlike anything in the real world, but eventually sees how the job is not suited for him. Montag has to deal with the antagonist Captain Beatty, his boss and control over the firefighters. The book was written in the 50s, explaining how the future with people treat books. For example, the tracking device is attached to the members in the faction to see where they are at all times, if they try to escape or trespass, the leaders will know. They have monitors that can test your mind and see if you are divergent or not and how fast you can deal with your fear. In contrast, technology in Fahrenheit 451 is very subtle. Fahrenheit 451 was written in the 1950s and predicts the future, but Divergent the movie is way passed present day. They have tattoos to distract the people between the factions. The tattoo will also represent what faction you are with, almost like a symbol. High tech tattoos that represent your faction or something about you. The parlor walls was the distraction in Fahrenheit 451 and they show videos and they are pretty much big screens on the walls. The Mechanical hound was the most advanced tech as it was to control the city, keep the people safe, and hunt. The Mechanical hound was eventually overturned and was not friendly. The protagonist Montag got into some conflict with this beast and it was not pretty, when Montag was on the run, the hound was his number one obstacle. The text explicitly states “ he hesitated to leave the comforting flow of the water. He expected the Hound there pg 141”. Montag eventually had to hide in the river from the hound.
