Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, is a novel about Guy Montag, a firefighter in a futuristic 24th century America. Firefighters in this time started fires, instead of putting them out. The people of this time don’t read books, don’t go outside, or have meaningful thoughts. Instead, they watch TV and listen to Seashell Radios. Montag’s view changes when he meets a 17 year-old Clarisse McClellan. She opens his mind to nature and makes him realize that there is more to life than TV and technology. Montag’s life takes a turn for the worse after his wife attempts suicide, an old woman chooses to die with her books, and Clarisse is killed by a speeding car. Montag looks for answers to life by looking through a stash of books he stole from fires. Overwhelmed by all the reading he has done overnight, he turns to his wife for help. When his wife refuses and rather would watch TV, he turns to a old retired English professor named Faber. Together, Faber and Montag work together to reprint some books and plant them in other firemens houses. One day at the station, the alarm goes off and the location of the call is Montag’s house. When the firemen arrive, they find that Montag’s wife, Mildred, has betrayed Montag by placing the call herself. Montag was the forced to burn down his own house. The fire captain places Montag under arrest and berates him for what he has done. As he does this, Montag incinerates him with a flamethrower and escapes. He leaves St. Louis to find a group of
