The inefficiency of these economies played a huge part in the fall of the Soviet Union. Present communist parties are allowing bigger economic competition while in a one party rule. I do not believe they will be able to succeed because the Soviet Union was a good example why government control over a group is not a good idea for economics. Fail or succeed, Communism is not as prominent as it was in the beginning when it started. Karl Marx should have evaluated his beliefs and ideas more to see the problems that could occured. A very big problem with communism was that everything was to equal and in human nature we are led by many superiors, but Karl Marx did not believe in that. He thought there would be a fall to Capitalism because a leader could take over the government completely. But the flaw to Communism is that equality put too much stress on the working class and middle class, which leads to fall of the economy when there is a need of more income from the classes, but if they are all equal, this does not help at
After it was conceived from the mind of Karl Marx, a Communist form of government
After World War II, the growing popularity of communist groups in Eastern Europe frightened the United States. Though the Cold War had many factors from the war, it is said to have been triggered by the Yalta Conference. The Soviets had disproportional losses from the war; they lost millions of soldiers as well as civilians, while the United States lost primarily soldiers. To prevent further losses, Russia bulked their borders up with Red Army soldiers. Both countries were responsible for the Cold War tensions; America saw no good in Communism and wanted to end the spread of the political theory at any cost. The Soviet Union wanted to show their dominance and success that came from the greatly feared idea of Communism.
The University of California President Robert Gordon Sproul proposed that all University appointees to swear the following: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I do not believe in, and I am not a member of, nor do I support any party or organization that believes in, advocates, or teaches the overthrow of the United States government, by force or by any illegal or unconstitutional methods; that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of California, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of my office according to the best of my ability.”
The show also didn’t show the political tension of the decade. One of the if not the biggest political tension of this time was McCarthyism. This was what really sent off the red scare. In 1950 Senator McCarthy gave a speech where he said he knew 205 communist who worked for the Department of State. He reported 81 cases the day of his speech and skipped many numbers and repeated the same flimsy evidence. The Senate called for a full investigation and many peoples lives was ruined due to all the false accusations. All of this lasted until 1954 when McCarthy attacked the military with his claims and the military questioned McCarthy's methods and credibility. Then poll after poll the citizens turned on McCarthy, then McCarthy’s colleagues censured
For Freud, communism is based on a contradictory assumption because it in no way alters human nature, instead it alters the motivations by which it operates. Aggression predates the ownership of property. It has also served throughout history to fix communities together against persons outside. Which is where prejudice originated from, for example, the Jews in the Middle Ages were the victims of prejudice by Christians. Freud believes the primal instinct of human beings to be aggressiveness. Freud considers the primary aims of civilization are to protect man from the dangers of nature and restrain the inclination to aggression. Of the Ten Commandments, Freud objects to the ninth commandment "Love thy neighbor." Freud objects mainly because
The forced labor for food and shelter model is exactly why communism didn’t work. Capitalism may have worked if they could beat their workers into submission like the slaves were beaten, but then it wouldn’t be “communism;” it would once again be “slavery,” a filthy word in anyone’s vernacular. And it progressed from there, as wealthy people schemed and manipulated to increase their wealth at the workers’ expense.
Communist rule was confined to the Soviet Union until the end of World War II.
The Specter of Communism: The United States and the Origins of the Cold War, 1917-1953 is a 1994 book published by Macmillan Publishers and written by Melvyn P. Leffler that details the U.S-Russian foreign relations from the formation of the Bolshevik Revolution up to the death of Joseph Stalin. There seem to be two schools of thought regarding the lead up to the Cold War; The first, being that American foreign policy decisions made during this time period were reactionary moves to what the Russians government did. That the Americans made these decisions in trying to stop the Russians from growing too strong and jeopardizing their safety and the democratic way of life around the world. The second is that the Americans used their power and superiority
Communism is a great idea. That’s what they said before Stalin swiftly executed 700,000 people with a gunshot to the back of the head, and before Mao Zedong’s policies and political purges indirectly killed at least ten million. It is a simple hypothesis; if everyone is equal, then everyone will be happy. Not a terrible concept, but the corruption of humans constricts the system until it inevitably crumbles. Some nations and individuals continue to believe in the fantasy, but the approach has no hope. In this way, Communism is equivalent to humanity. Humans choose to portray ourselves as selfless and benevolent, a species of unconditional love and kindness towards one another. We naturally fall short of these standards and sabotage our own system with warfare and selfishness. We beat each other into the ground in a simple game called life in which we are all meant to be playing on the same team. We are remarkably hopeful, while incredibly hopeless.
Another reason as to why communism failed is that the communist country had some international pressure, For example the soviet union had international pressure throughout the cold war due to there belief in communism because the communist government had a hard time finding economic partners and due to the cold war the communist regime disregarded social issues and even failed to achieve economic progress. However one of the big reasons as to why communism has failed is that communism removes the incentive for people to work harder than they absolutely have to therefore damaging the economic state of that country leading to failure and collapse. Although communism can lead to the collapse of a country of the failure of it, communism has some advantages/ benefits. Communism theoretically can improve childcare, public health, education, and social benefits. Another benefits of communism are that all the people are equal, there are no competition, and that all the resources are distributed efficiently. So the theory of communism is great in theory but proved to be disastrous in practice for many
As anybody with a degree of political knowledge would understand, throughout history, communism has had a hand in the downfall of several organized governments. The reasons for these failures are all similar in nature. Usually because of lack of motivation for the workforce due to no incentive to succeed when everyone is rewarded equally regardless of effort. Socialism is similar, but to a less extensive degree, and democracy is arguably headed into the same direction. I write this to project truth and my collective knowledge on the matter.
In standard Economics we analyze aspects of capitalism. It is reasonable to do so, as not only is that the system we use, but to an extent how the world stage works. Trade for monetary value, not equal distribution of recourses. However it is important to talk about a still current economic and political movement, communism. There are still a handful of countries that prescribe to the communist ideals set by Karl Marx and Frederic Engels. However, do these countries stand up when compared to the original Communist Manifesto? Do they compare to the capitalist and socialist countries on the world stage? That is what I plan to answer.
The Communist system created by Karl Marx has ultimately failed due to Marx’s inability to comprehend human nature and motivation, the importance of strong government, and the changing dynamic of the world economy. The extremely idealistic nature of The Communist Manifesto is the reason for the problematic nature of the system proposal. Marx failed to consider practical issues or rely on reason when creating Communism. This fatal flaw, his complete belief in a Utopian society, has led to the lack of success of the system in all attempts. Marx’s naïve faith in the perfectibility of human nature led to Communism being an ineffectual system. Therefore, the adoption of Communism has always required major changes to the original plan, and even then, has often been characterized by utter failure.
Failure of the Communist System The communist system fell for various reasons. In time, I don't think that this could have been avoided as the communist ideal had a basic flaw in it. It misunderstood human nature. Their ideology was based on every man working to the best of his ability for the good of the nation.
Communism was a huge problem and caused many conflicts throughout the 1900s between many different countries. China and the Soviet Union were two of the major communist powers, trying to spread their thoughts and ideas throughout the world. They both targeted third world countries, or the developing countries, for hope that their ideas would stick there the best. Their idea of pulling people out of poverty and creating this one equal class was intriguing to the small developing countries to follow the lead of the Soviet Union and China. Were all of the Communist ideas that Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong were forcing on their countries beneficial for the whole population? Although there were good things about communism that really helped
