There are many debates concerning which branch of government is more powerful. I honestly thought the executive branch was the least powerful of all three, but James Wilson lists a lot of reasons to think otherwise. The argument that the President and the Executive branch is the most powerful is still up in the air, but there are three strong reasons why the President and Executive branch is the most powerful at the moment.

American politics is often defined by a continuing power conflict between the executive and the legislative branches of the government. This struggle for political power between the two stronger branches of the three is inherent in the Constitution, itself. The concepts of separation of powers and checks and balances ensure that the branches of government will remain in conflict and provide a balance that keeps the entire government under control. The system of checks and balances is a procedure in which systems allows each branch of government to limit the powers of the other two branches. These checks allow each branch to block the actions of another branch. When Congress has the power to pass laws, the president can check this power by vetoing a bill before it becomes an actual law. Congress also has the same power and can check the president’s power by overriding the veto if two-thirds of the majority in Congress vote in each house. The Judicial Branch can also check these actions of the other two branches. The Supreme Court can declare that a law, treaty, or an executive action is unconstitutional. Basically, the system of Checks and Balances is to balance out each branch and limiting each branch’s power. (Page 162 9.2)

I believe the legislative branch has more power according to the constitution. One reason why i believe this is the legislative branch has more power The legislative branch makes the laws for the country. The power includes passing laws, spending bills, and approving treaties. If the President vetoes the law, then the House and Senate can vote again on it. If 2/3rds of both approve, it can become a law anyway. Judges confirmed by the Senate.

Me: The roles of the various branches of government today, I would have to say that three branches were created from the Constitution are the Legislative, Executive, and the Judicial Branch of government.

The Judicial Branch is the balancing factor of the Government. It is the listener of the people of the US and it decides on all matters regarding the people. It "interprets the nation's law" (World Book 141). Being able to interpret the law gives the Judicial branch a special kind of power. One of which the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch do not possess. The Judicial branch decides when a law has been broken, to what extent, and how to punish the criminal act. And that is what makes it the strongest branch.

Finally, another reason why i think the executive branch is the most powerful is because it is the most responsible branch. I say this because the executive branch is headed by the president who is the leader of our country.We know that the Republicans in Congress might be able to get enough votes to get rid of Obamacare. However with President Trump in the White House and able to veto laws, there is no way such a law could ever be passed.This branch is the one that controls the votes and so on.This branch also makes sure that all laws are obeyed, and that is a big role in the constitution.
