The high end, brand name clothes everyday stores sell are likely made by workers that get paid less than one percent of the retail price, not to mention the horrible working conditions and unacceptable employee treatment. In today’s global economic world, global trade has allowed people to have a vast accessibility to goods, meaning products can travel from Taiwan to the United States in a short amount of time. This trade has allowed industries to tap into new markets and customers. Global trade has played a huge role in the growth of the economy, but also the increase of suffering for the impoverished. Large corporations pay as little as possible for cheap labor in third world countries, then turn around and sell those products for high prices. Since there are no laws requiring minimum wage, millions of people, with jobs, fall into poverty. Fairtrade is a method that can indirectly help an individual in these working conditions that should be integrated more into international trading regulations around the world (Eric Dirnbach).
