The fall of the Roman Empire Political, economic and social aspects were all involved in the fall of the Roman Empire. In 395 A.D., Rome was divided into two empires, with one capital in Rome and the other in Constantinople. During that time, the western Roman Empire was being invaded by barbarian tribes from the North. In 410, the Visigoth tribe succeeded in conquering the western capital in Rome. In 476, the western Emperor Romulus Augustulus was finally overthrown at the substitute capital set up in Ravenna, and in 529 the eastern Emperor Justinian declared that the pagan religions of ancient Rome were illegal. Although Rome at this point was now ruled under on man, the Romans did not agree, so they formed a three branch system. In oder for Rome to balance the power in the government, tey had an executive branch, which was responsible for supporting, and enforcing the laws. Next was the legislative branch, which made the laws, and finally, the judicial branch which was responsible for interpreting the laws that were made by the legislative branch and enforced by the executive branch. This balanced the power in a way, to that the empire was still under one ruler, but the power wasn’t all just to him. The year 476 A.D. marked the end of the Roman Empire. At this point in time, Diocletian attempted to save the Roman Empire by dividing it into east and west, in order to govern each section separately. The capital became Constantinople, which today is Turkey. Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. There were many causes for the fall of the Roman Empire, such as high taxed. For example, the taxes became higher to support the government, but the Roman people were becoming selfish and lazy, therefore they weren’t working enough to make the amount of money they needed for taxes. Since people weren’t working, and couldn’t make money, this led to the middle class disappearing because either they were rich or poor.
