The ensuing blast ignited a blaze that engulfed the neighborhood in flames, eventually destroying approximately 65 nearby houses. The firefighters, that had earlier been spraying the MOVE house, stood by as the fire engulfed the first house and then the others. The order to let the fire burn was given by Commissioner Sambor. It was feared that Firefighter would be targeted by MOVE. The aftermath left eleven dead, five were children, 65 houses burned downer and 350 people displaced. An investigation to the incident showed that Mayor Goode was negligent for allowing a failed operation to continue (Floyd-Thomas, 2002; Trippett,1985; White, n.d.). The investigation into the incident showed a gross abuse of force and negligence by all those involved. This was a major act of police misconduct, but was it one of just a few officers

CW went to 1261 Everton Dr, Apt 9 Akron, OH 44307 because they were called out by Akron Police Department (APD) for allegations of abuse towards 2 children. CW Jonathon Henry and CW Sonya Cole pulled up to the apartment complex and observed that there were over 15 people sitting outside. Both CW could tell that this was the correct address because there were 3 police cars that were sitting outside. As the CW's were walking towards the apartment complex an APD officer asked if the two workers were from CSB. CW Cold responded that they were. The officer then told CW's that there were not 2 children, however, there was 3. The officer stated that there was one child in the bedroom sleeping that they did not know was in the home. CW's were also told by the officer that Mr. Brian Burrell (AP) was in the home and that he was very agitated. The officer told the CW that they had called him down, however, suspected that he would get upset after entering the home. The officer also said that he already knew that the kids were in the custody of CSB and that he would most likely not be happy that the two CW's were at the home. The officer the led both the CW upstairs to apartment 9.

In late 1992, Cameron Todd Willingham was found guilty of murder and sentenced to death for a fire that claimed the lives of his three daughters the previous December. During the trial, the prosecution cited evidence from two arson investigators, Douglass Fogg and Manuel Vasquez, listing “more than ‘twenty indicators’ of arson,” along with testimony from medical experts and other witnesses. The trial lasted only two days and resulted in a unanimous guilty verdict. However, now following Willingham’s execution, it has come to light that much of the evidence used in his conviction in no way guarantees that arson had occurred.
