Family/Living Situation – Shaquille Godwin is a 19 year old Black male without children. He is the product of the non-marital relationship between his mother and father, and the fifth oldest of 13 biological siblings.
Shaquille was removed from his biological home around the age five. He was part of a three-sibling set removed at that time. His mother and father were accused of child neglect and physical abuse. Additionally, Shaquille was the victim of sexual assault by an older sibling in the home. Shaquille shares that his biological mother continues to use illegal drugs, and his father continues to be an active alcoholic. He was placed in general foster care and eventually was placed in a treatment foster care (TFC) home due to aggressive behaviors. His TFC parent, Charlyn Godwin, became an adoptive parent to Shaquille and his younger brother, Johnnie. Ms. Godwin describes Shaquille as “a nice person who’s had a hard life.” Ms. Godwin says that Shaquille’s biggest challenges were in the school setting. Shaquille says that Ms. Godwin routinely left him to his own devices and paid more attention to her needs than his. Eventually, she was unable to meet his educational and behavioral needs, and returned him to the foster care system.
Following his return to foster care, Shaquille says that he was placed with a foster family that left him at a Boys & Girls Club. He does not know why he was left there and was eventually placed with Shelly Tucker. Mr. Tucker, also a TFC
When he was drafted into the NBA by the Denver Nuggets, the players knew about his drug issue. Therefore, they tried to help him stay on a clean path to a drug free life. His teammates would all take turns staying with him and making sure he didn’t drink or do any drugs. He was clean for over a year, however, that was all erased after he was traded to the Boston Celtics because he relapsed again. While with The Boston Celtics, Chris used painkillers such as OxyContin, Vicodin, and Percocent. He was released by the Boston Celtics because of a season ending knee injury. After he recovered from that injury, Chris went to play in Europe and Asia. There he would have dealers send packages of painkillers, so he would always have his drugs. However, he was caught using drugs and sent back to America. A few months later, in the parking lot of a Dunkin’ Donuts, Chris was found unconscious and was charged with possession of heroin and driving under the influence with a revoked license. Soon Chris started to purchase and use crystal meth. While under the influence of crystal meth, Chris overdosed and crashed his car into a utility pole. The paramedics on site at the accident said he was dead for thirty seconds.

Ever since Kevin Garnett, a teenager who by-passed college, was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 1995 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, more and more high school teenagers have been making the jump straight to the pros. Since the league draft of 1995, 17 first round picks have been high school players. This means that about 7 percent of first round draft picks in the NBA have been high school teens skipping out on their college education to make the jump to the NBA (Chylinski).

It was Friday morning. The varsity girls basketball team had their very first home game tonight at 7:00. Her shaky hands were clammy the whole day and she couldn’t think straight. Her teachers and classmates could tell something was wrong so they told her that her game that night would be fine and she would do great.

After Jordan cheated on me but before I knew, he asked to borrow $300 for food, just realized he took out $500 instead and refuses to pay me back for all the other money he borrowed or even took without my knowledge.
