There was a performer by the Duke Chorale, it called “The Family Weekend Concert” that happen on October 21, 2017 at 8 pm. During this concert they covered the Duke Chorale which directed by Rodney Wynkoop, Duke University Wind Symphony that directed by Verena Mosenbichler- Bryant and Duke Symphony Orchestra that was directed by Harry Davidson. On the Chorale songs were pretty diverse they did something called "I Thank You God by Gwyneth Walker (b. 1947)" and “Old Time Religion by Traditional Spiritual, Arr. Keith McCutchen and Everett McCovey” but I did not see any relationship between their selections and the rest of the program. The two that I recognized were Mozart and Beethoven that we are talking about it in classed.

Overall, I found the performance uplifting, there was an underlying joy to it both in the performers and the audience. "Liberatore” I liked but it went on too long and I thought repetitive. I was sitting in the second row, eye level with the stage, the intimacy was good but when the brass went hard in "Fanfare from "La Peri" it was a little crushing. I thought they did great, they seem to be prepared and present all what they got in them. There are few students were playing their part and making eyes and smile at the audience, which is interest and felt welcome to this concert. Overall, in my thought, I think they did great. However, there are some part were felt liberating in the “Libertadores". In general, this concert was fun and prefect but to answering the question number 11 is quite not fully understand. Well, I'm not sure what "understanding" means, there were texts on the music which pretty much explained the works. I followed the flow of the music and watched the performers as they played and knew who was doing the music at any time. It was all more feeling than
The first song that I will be evaluating will be Man La Mancha. The first thing that I noticed that my section did really well was the dynamics at measure seventeen. The whole band could work on is staying in balance with other people because you could pick out certain voices in the sections. In delsonaya we really could of brought down are volume when the flute solo came in because she could be barley heard over the band. The bass voices could improve on ninety eight because when we would come up in the menacing it sounded as if we were slurring the notes and not making them prominent. the trumpet on the solo at the start was amazing and sounded perfect and was played musically. This was one of my favorite songs in are concert and I think
In the book Just Mercy, Walter McMillian was an African American who was falsely convicted and sent to death row for the murder of Ronda Morrison. Walter spent six years on death row terrorized, fearing for the day he would inevitably die. However, Walter was freed from death row after six years, finally being a free man once again. However, this does not mean that Walter finally received justice. After Walter was free he was diagnosed with dementia, a disease that tragically ended his life early, Walter also received a miniscule amount of compensation for the time he spent on death row, and he had no help dealing with the traumas from being on death row.
Overall, the performance turned out a success. Both the symphony and opera act enhanced the audience with the feeling of warmth and laughter. The symphony made me to realize how each section is structured and in order, while the opera act was simple, yet made it very delightful to listen to. Also, It’s amazing how different the symphony and opera act turned out. The symphony followed a four-movement pattern: fast, slow, minuet/dance, fast, while the opera combined both musical and singing element. In essence, the combination of voice and strings as well as the unstructured nature and freedom of the opera led me to emotionally connect with all three pieces of the
I think that the performer’s ability was appropriate for their location and for their audience because the tone quality of the musicians sounded very rich and clean. When I listened to the performance, I was able to hear all of the different parts of the piece clearly, which has made me much more conscious of the balance and dynamics of each phrase when I play. The texture of the pieces played was very rich and full because an orchestral piece is designed to have a good balance of instruments and good range of frequencies of sound that has lots of different things happening at the same time.
MUS 110CL Concert Critique Guidelines and Rubric After either attending a live concert or watching a full length concert online, write a critique of the performance following the format below. Here are a few examples of full length concerts you can find online (by conducting a web search using the criteria below) that could be used for this assignment: Coldplay Live In Boston 2012 (Full Concert DVD) Sting: If on a winters night-Live from Durham Cathedral 2009 (watch all 14 songs on concert) Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Bill Wyman, Jan Hammer, Charlie Duke Ellington The Great Paris Concert Richard Galliano/Winton Marsalis - Billie Holiday meets Edith PIAF Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Jazz Center
My initial response to the concert was of much surprise. First, when I walked in I didn’t expect to see such a formal event. Thank goodness I showed up in my work clothes! My initial reaction to the music however was one of great surprise. I didn’t really know what to expect from the Lee’s Summit Symphony because honestly I didn’t even know they existed. Once the symphony began to play “Don Giovanni” my mood instantly changed. The symphony was incredible, and the music was not what I had expected at all. I was surprised by how much of the music I had actually heard before and just not realized it.
During the 1930’s, equality was not like it is today. Race was a common issue during this time. White people believed they were worth more and better than black people during this time. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the issue of equality is an ongoing theme throughout the story. Aunt Alexandra is a minor character in this story.
The name of concert was Jazz Ensemble II. It was on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 8 p.m. in the Julien J. Studley Theatre. The director of this concert was John Menegon. There were five instruments available those are bass, trumpet, drums, alto sax, and guitar. In addition to the instruments there were two vocals. Six pieces were played those were How Deep is the Ocean (Irving Berlin), S.T. Louis Blues (W.C. Handy) , Donna Lee/ Back Home in Indiana (Charlie Parker/ Ballard MacDonald, James F. Hanley) , Motion Detector (John Menegon) , A night in Tunisia (music by Dizzy Gillespie, lyric by Ella Fitzgerald) , and the last one was I don’t need No Doctor (music by John Mayer), respectively.
5. The concert environment was quite new to my experience than movie theaters and other modern concert (the ones with no seats). The room was as big as the theatre, yet it doesn’t stink like spilled drinks and snacks. I find the concert when it plays the intro very nostalgic as if I was able to afford the seat in the 1800s. The musical instruments in the concert, of course, were more realistic than the speakers because I can hear the true work. If I can, I should go to the concert like this more often and maybe the ones where I can feel “classy”.
The cellos sounded perfect throughout the whole performance. I am not sure the music would sound as good as it did without them. The way they played so smooth, going along with the dancers was very calming, yet suspenseful. Without the cellos, I do not believe the musicians would be able to produce such a heart throbbing sound.
Overall the performance was great. I’ve always loved the sound of guitars because my dad and uncle both play. I became entranced by the music it reminded me of my childhood. Like these were pieces id hear on my favorite shows like tom and jerry. I liked the recital overall because each person picked great pieces but all went together in a way like it had a theme that reminded me of Hispanic or Italian music. Even though, some of the performers messed up they still did well and played right through like nothing happened. I also, liked how the players expressed the way they felt playing the music their body language and facial expressions made me feel the music even more. The stage mostly bare but, was set up with a chair and for one performance
The performance given by the Andean ensemble was quite spectacular, from the marching in of the Tarkeda Los Jovenes and the fact that it used recorders and drums in way which I don’t think I’ve heard before. I also think that the arrangement of the songs on the concert was well done, starting off with an upbeat song then transitioning to songs that have a sort of slow fast form to them and concluding with sort of dance music that the audience couldn’t help but move to. The instruments that were used in the concert are what surprised me the most, which included guitars, drums, flute, shakers, recorders, and violin to name a few. To be completely honest I didn’t really know much about the Andean music prior to this experience as it wasn’t something I was exposed to growing so I didn’t even know it existed. From an audience member’s perspective, I felt like the music
As I mentioned, I had never been to a classical music concert before and for this reason did not know what to expect. I have not listened to much classical music in the past and was honestly slightly skeptical about how thing would go. Typically the concerts I attend are very loud and with a lot of crowd noise as they are more mainstream. This classical concert contained very interesting works of music and was different in that the audience was silent as the musicians performed. Everyone seemed to be more intrigued to simply listen and hear the works of art that these musicians were putting on display. I found the event to be very relaxing and interesting with some of the background knowledge I have acquired throughout the semester. I was able to grasp and take in the experience more due to the knowledge I have progressively gained about music throughout the semester. It allowed me to listen in a different way and focus on certain things rather than just the overall sound. All in all, this was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to take in and appreciate the art of classical music along with the skills these musicians
I think the performance of the orchestra was above average. I enjoyed all aspect from when the conductor was welcomed by members of the orchestra to when the choir joined towards the grand finale. Both the orchestra and the audience played their role exceptionally. I watched the orchestra play over and over trying to grasp the meaning of every movement while enjoying the choral. By looking at the members of the large orchestra I could tell they were eager to please. Also the fact that they had rehearsed gave them confidence which was fully in display.
The music played throughout all of the concerts adhered to be diverse. The instruments, the individuals performing, and the conductor all proved to be outstanding. The concerts proved to be interesting as I witnessed them, first hand.
