The social problem that is portrayed in this video is family homelessness. According to our text, a social problem is defined as an issue that negatively affects a person’s state of being in a society. Homelessness is a social problem where people do not have a regular, stable residence. After watching the video of the different families living in cars, I think it is very obvious that their state of beings are definitely negatively affected in this society. It is not healthy physically or emotionally to be living in a vehicle without the necessities of everyday life. These shelters are capable of providing housing or financial assistance for a limited amount of time to a large number of people. The prevention programs help solve the problems that are causing the families or individuals to be homeless and finding a solution through support in the community to keep them housed. For example, in the video, the community had raised and/or donated enough money for Jade’s family to move out of their car and into a motel room. Many of these prevention programs help these families find affordable housing and support services that aid in health care and employment. Another strategy to prevent homelessness is to educate the people in society about this social problem, which will lead to an increase in volunteers and contributions through donating goods and services. In the “families living in cars” video, this kind of activity is shown when the community discovers the amount of homeless students in the Florida school districts. Once the people in the community were educated, they donated about four million dollars along with food and other necessities. Some parents, who are experiencing this social problem, are doing all they can to support their family, but with all of the risk factors, it simply is not enough to succeed in life today. This is why support from the community is so important to help prevent homelessness. The homelessness population just needs that extra “push” to jumpstart a new, more stable
