The social problem that is portrayed in this video is family homelessness. According to our text, a social problem is defined as an issue that negatively affects a person’s state of being in a society. Homelessness is a social problem where people do not have a regular, stable residence. After watching the video of the different families living in cars, I think it is very obvious that their state of beings are definitely negatively affected in this society. It is not healthy physically or emotionally to be living in a vehicle without the necessities of everyday life. Tending to the needs of children, especially school age children, is difficult in a home let alone within the confines of a car. It is unsafe and, as mentioned by a few of the …show more content…
These shelters are capable of providing housing or financial assistance for a limited amount of time to a large number of people. The prevention programs help solve the problems that are causing the families or individuals to be homeless and finding a solution through support in the community to keep them housed. For example, in the video, the community had raised and/or donated enough money for Jade’s family to move out of their car and into a motel room. Many of these prevention programs help these families find affordable housing and support services that aid in health care and employment. Another strategy to prevent homelessness is to educate the people in society about this social problem, which will lead to an increase in volunteers and contributions through donating goods and services. In the “families living in cars” video, this kind of activity is shown when the community discovers the amount of homeless students in the Florida school districts. Once the people in the community were educated, they donated about four million dollars along with food and other necessities. Some parents, who are experiencing this social problem, are doing all they can to support their family, but with all of the risk factors, it simply is not enough to succeed in life today. This is why support from the community is so important to help prevent homelessness. The homelessness population just needs that extra “push” to jumpstart a new, more stable
Homeless shelters are temporary residence for homeless families or individuals. They provide safety and protection from possible dangers in the streets and from exposure to different weather conditions. While the homeless shelter is able to provide a roof over their heads, they also experience several problems due to lack of funding for a more proper homeless shelter set up. These problems are as follows:
Hale & Hearty’s, is a fast food restaurant that will give people an alternative to the fast food that is currently available to consumers. Instead of having to settle for greasy hamburgers, french fries, fried chicken, etc. Hale & Hearty’s will provide fresh healthy food to consumers and customers will be able to get it in the same time as the “traditional” fast food we have available to us now. There will be a drive thru service and a takeout service that includes a small eating area for people that want to dine at the location.
When homelessness became a national epidemic in the 1980s, reformers responded with emergency shelters that were meant to be temporary havens. But as homelessness became more entrenched, so did shelters: Their capacity more than doubled by the late 1980s, then again a few years later, and then again by 2000. Along the way, they became institutionalized way stations for lots of poor people with temporary housing crises, including those avoiding family conflicts, leaving prison or transitioning from substance-abuse treatment.
This research project studied the broad subject of homelessness from a distinctive perspective. Homeless individuals have different needs, and different human services organizations offer many homeless service programs to individuals, from temporary shelter to transitional housing, and training and health programs among others. Nonetheless, the most important service needed for homeless individuals should be the one that leads to permanent housing solutions. However, findings from this research study suggested that not all homeless service programs are as effective in alleviating homelessness in the community, as most have been led to believe in the past. Therefore, the required question had to be, how effective are homeless service programs in alleviating homelessness in the City of Springfield MA? Finding an answer to that question was the primary reason for this research. This research study sought to know more about the effectiveness of two distinctive service programs, which although similar in services offered, both operate with completely different funding and visions on how to solve the
It is estimated that 3.5 million people will experience homelessness during a given year. The fastest growing population experiencing homelessness is families, mostly made up of single mothers and her children. Families headed by women comprise more than half of the homeless population and 42% of this population is under the age of 5. Across the country about 2.5 million children are homeless, which is equivalent to 1 in every 30 children. The legal definition of homeless “refers to those who spend 7 consecutive nights in a car, abandoned building, public park, emergency shelter, nonresidential building, or other unconventional residence.

First, government provides housing assistance to low-income families. Low-income families just need pay 30% of their total income for rent. Second, mainstream programs provide a safety net for homelessness. This net makes mainstream programs like housing assistance, welfare, and substance support could provide what homelessness need quickly. Third, Communities created a data system to record information about homelessness. These information could be analyzed to help people know the cause of people become homeless, how long people become homeless, what exactly homeless people need, and the effect of mainstream’s support. Government already saw some positive influence of these programs. The number of family homelessness decreased 43 percent in Hennepin Country. New York creased 11 percent of homeless families was placed by a permanent housing. (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2010)
Zeus is the king of the gods on Olympus and human. Since he is the highest and powerful deity, he can mediate the conflicts of the gods. His action affects the fate of human beings. His most descendants are handsome, heroic, and powerful, in contrast with the descendants of Poseidon, as Zeus seems to be the absolute in the world. He sometimes helps Odyssey and allows Athena to help Odysseus to go back to his home. Nevertheless, he also respects Poseidon’s wrath to punish Odysseus and his people, which seems that it is more important for Zeus to preserve a good relationship with his brother Poseidon than he gives people, who are supplicating to go back to their home, a favor.
Homelessness is an aspect of society, which most people chose not to acknowledge. With the increasing amount of issues the United States faces, homelessness tends to be forgotten when the time comes for the government to establish what issues they should assist. Due to the substantial amount of issues the government concerns itself with, homelessness does not receive the necessary attention required and is improperly handled. In today’s society poverty-stricken individuals or families is too much of a common occurrence to be treated as lightly as it is. Additional government intervention is necessary in order to supply the needed resources, which can prevent the further spread of homelessness. The United States government is obligated to protect its citizens and should care about the constant growth of homelessness. Through economic policies and community advertisements, the government can control the issue of individuals who are facing poverty.
One of the simplest pieces of knowledge we acquire in elementary school (for future growth and development) are the three basic needs a living organism requires for living: food, water, and shelter. However, not everyone has access to all of these essentials. Homeless people are faced with awful conditions and suffer more due to poor weather conditions, diseases, and lack of safety. There hasn’t been much progress on this issue, and if this continues, the number of homeless people will only increase. In a few states the topic is being named as a “statewide emergency”, but unfortunately this problem is national. Instead of focusing on state programs, local programs and non-profit organizations to fix the housing issue, we must all contribute to ending this epidemic. The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) released an article stating, “In January 2015, 564,708 people were homeless on a given night in the United States” (Snapshot of Homelessness). We must develop a solution to end long term homelessness immediately. The best way of solving this issue is to provide stable long-term housing, which is a term used to describe the home’s environment and financial status.
Homelessness is deemed a social problem because of the many social factors that could play a role in it. “Social forces such as addictions, family breakdown, and mental illness are compounded by structural forces such as lack of available low-cost housing, poor economic conditions, and insufficient mental health services” (Chattopadhyay, et al., 2013). Since there are many contributing factors that aid in homelessness, it has been deemed a social problem.
Homeless people are a vulnerable population in many respects that they always face discrimination and exclusion because of their housing condition. It is a social problem that typically low wages and shortage of affordable housing are the main factors contributing to homelessness. In fact, many poor people face significant barriers to maintain stable housing because they don’t have accessibilities to increase their economic stability. Overall, there are significant factors that contribute to homelessness that many homeless people usually struggle with limited access to resources, lack of information about services, and lack of support systems.
To begin with, it is important to start with the fact that more than half a million people in the United States are homeless and forced to live on the streets and either sleep in an unsheltered location, or at a housing project (emergency shelters, short-term transitional housing, or safe havens). Moreover, according to a Social Solutions’ article (2016), 15% of the homeless population are individuals who have experienced homelessness for a period longer than a year (chronic homelessness). It is because of those facts about homelessness that I had decided to volunteer at a faith-based temporary overnight shelter and subsequently record my experiences and what I observed during my visit.
According to suitcaseclinic.org, homelessness is a temporary condition that people fall into when they cannot afford to pay for a place to live, or when their current home has been declared unsafe or even unstable. According to Habitat.org, this issue affects between 1.6 million to close to 3 million people within the United States ("World Habitat”). The issue is growing throughout the world, yet what is the root cause? Numerous people wonder how they can help. Most tend to believe that the solution is as simple as just giving them money to use for daily living. Even though their root cause for their issue isn’t money. It is the fact that they don’t grasp how to use their money properly/ responsibly. The homeless can’t be helped with just cash, they need the proper support systems along with education to become successful.
Beaten, neglected, and loved Buck dealt with all those things. In the story ‘’ The Call of the Wild ‘’, the central theme is how one treats animals can reflect on what kind of person they are.
