The word family is very important as they are the supporting pillars in our lives. Thus family is defined as a group of individuals who share ties of blood, marriage, or adoption; a group residing together and consisting of parents, children, and other relatives by blood or marriage; a group of individuals residing together who have consented to an arrangement similar to ties of blood or marriage. 2010). Family is important as it helps in shaping our lives, teaches us self – confidence, self discipline, love, care and affection. It is a place where we can always be our self. There are many definitions for families and many categories. From nuclear families, to single parent family, extended family with siblings in law, families with same sex parents, childless family, Intergenerational families, adoptive-foster families. Thus family has a broader definition " basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, considered as a group, whether dwelling together or not ( Extended family refers to "a family that extends beyond the immediate family, consisting of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all living nearby or in the same household. Another type of family is the intergenerational family. As the elderly population grows more and more a growing number of households have at least one member who is a grandparent.
