Family Traditions In The United States

In my culture traditions are very important in your life. For example, one tradition that has been in my family for many years is going to the park and celebrating Easter with the family. We barbecue, play sports, and then at the end of the day we have an Easter egg hunt for the young children. Another tradition of ours is to do a Christmas Eve dinner at my great grandma’s house. During this event you are with your relatives and close friends for dinner and for a social gathering until the early morning of Christmas day. Many of our traditions revolve around getting all of our family together and spending time with them.

I have found the sweet sixteen party is quite similar to a Quinceañero birthday party. Probably the most distinct similarities are that they are both an event that celebrates a girl’s transition from childhood to womanhood. They are both an important part of the culture, as well as are quite elaborate and usually expensive, depending on the type of party the parents want. They celebrate when a girl becomes a woman, which is a major stage in life because adults have more privileges and responsibilities. Traditions are common part of culture and religion in the world today; almost everyone has a tradition that they follow. The traditions you practice can be new and only just have started with your generation or the generation before yours. The traditions could also have been old, spanning many generations before your generation and your parents’ generation. Some traditions could be small and last for a few generations; an example of this would be like a yearly family cookout. Art is method of expressing a person creativity. Depending on the level of creativity and uniqueness makes the art valuable. The purpose of Chicago Art fair was to rejoice in the remembrance Christopher Columbus discovery of America, at that time 400 years ago. From modern time, 12 and half decades ago, Chicago was epic center of art. Millions of people came from all over the world just to be in attendance. On the fourth Thursday of every November, families gather together to spend a day filled with food and laughter. Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers and the Native Americans enjoyed their first meal together. However, my parents were both raised in Mexico and never had a typical yearly Thanksgiving celebration. Despite my parents home being Mexico, they started a family in America and decided to teach their children about both of the places they come from. A compromise between American and Mexican traditions formed and served as a family tradition until last year. A year ago, my family ate a Thanksgiving meal at my sister's parent-in-laws house.

Traditions are really important in my family it brings us all together in a fun way. One of my families many traditions is on the Fourth of July we have a big party for my mom’s side of the family. We get together and we have hot dogs, burgers,and chips. We play volleyball, kickball ,and talk till it’s dark then set off fireworks.

The families in America are steadily changing. While they remain our most valued and consistent source of strength and comfort, some families are becoming increasingly unstructured. In the past, the typical family consists of a working father, a stay at home mother and, of course, well-rounded children. Today, less than 20 percent of American families fit nicely into this cookie cutter image. American households have never been more diverse. One of these is that on Thanksgiving everybody comes together to my parents’ house in New Jersey for a huge feast. On Christmas only my mother and the children (me and my brother) travel to Illinois to spend a week with my grandparents. On New Years Eve we all get together at my parents’ house in New Jersey and toast to the New Year with champagne and apple cider. During Labor Day weekend all of my family travels to South Jersey to my grandfathers’ condo. We usually spend all of our time on the beach and barbequing, except on Sunday when we go to church. After all, my grandfather is a minister. One of our biggest family traditions is going back to Puerto Rico. Every year my mother and I travel back to Puerto Rico for a portion of our summer vacation. Now that I am older I travel there more often and stay there much longer. My father never joins because he doesn’t like my mothers side of the father too much and he thinks that we when we speak Spanish we are all plotting against him. Of course that’s not true though. My bother doesn’t speak Spanish so he doesn’t like to go either. I guess that tradition is one that belongs solely to my mother and I.

First, we must take time to train our individual families about our own heritage. It is training because individualism has placed distance between family members. When we do not spend a considerable amount of time with our family member’s ancient heritage can be lost or forgotten. We must train the upcoming generations about what ideals, religious and secular are important for their particular family. This will ensure that whatever Christmas traditions currently celebrated will continue in the years to come.

Everyone has special traditions for different holidays. One holiday in particular is Thanksgiving. For example they could just go to a relative's house or they could just stay home. Or they could eat different dishes like some families eat ham and others eat turkey. Everyone has different traditions and eats different foods and go different places. Most traditions are different between cultures and religion. My family may have different traditions than yours but that doesn't mean that they are still not good.
