The career I would like to pursue would be farming. Farming is not an easy thing to do there are multiple risks you must take. To be a good farmer you must have knowledge of advanced technology and keep up to date with the latest and greatest technology in order to progress and must also have business skills as well as hands on experience on a farm. Farmers salary will never be the same year to year, the market will determine when and how much you get for your product, if there is a surplus of corn form the previous year then the market price will be very low, making your income also low. The median annual income of most farmers and ranchers was about $61,000 in 2010, according to the U.S. bureau of Labor Statistics. The top ten percent of …show more content…
The more technology there is on a farm then the less workers you are going to need. Farming isn’t a growing industry by any means. The employment of farmers will drop 8 percent from 2010 to 2020, according to the BLS. That’s because of new ways being developed to produce more food with fewer workers. Larger farms will survive because they can afford to invest into the new technology. States with the highest concentrations of farm employment have the best prospects. The top five states for this in 2011 were, Idaho, Iowa, Nebraska, Kentucky and California. Farming as a whole will continue to be less- hands on and done by machine with a single person driving it. Today’s farmers produce 262 percent more food with 2 percent fewer inputs (labor, seeds, feed, fertilizer, etc.), compared with 1950. The American Farm Bureau Federation surveyed about 1000 young farmers and ranchers from across the country. The survey showed that 91 percent of them were more optimistic about farming that they were 5 years ago, about 88 percent said that they wanted to see their children follow in there
On Saturday, March 7th, 2015 I went to the farmer’s market in Washington, DC. While at the farmer’s market I observed over a hundred people going in and out of the market, buying fruit and vegetables and also interacting with each other. In a 10 minute span I observed 32 people touching their nose, mouth, eyes, ears, and genital area in some way shape or form. Within the 10 minute span each person touched their various body parts more than twice. I also observed an additional 10 people coughing and sneezing in their palm and didn’t use hand sanitizer or washing their hands afterward.
Article by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS titled “ Trump’s Deportation Vow Spurs California Farmers Into Action” was very knowledgeable to facts and to situations I had never thought of or have come by to think about. This is a very hot topic since our current election, since America Voted in a Racist man for presidency who wants to deport 11 million illegal immigrants out of our country. This does not only just affect illegal immigrants but any person who buy fruit or vegetables from the grocery store. 50 percent of fruits and vegetables comes from California, which 85 percent of those farm workers live in the United States illegally. This also directly connect to
In 2015, agriculture was a $133.1 billion dollar industry nationally. With such a huge income you would think that everyone farmed. The truth is that only 2% of America’s population live on a farm. The number is drastic compared to the income received that year. People generally associate these statistics to “all farming must be factory farming then.” Actually, 99% of farms are family farms based. A lot of the so-called facts about the agriculture industry are not always the truth. There are multitudes of sources that are for the increase of the agriculture industry then there are some that are just watching for the downfall of the industry. If I had the opportunity to speak with someone who was opposed to agriculture, I would ask them a few simple questions. I would ask “where they thought we would be without agriculture?” I would then proceed to ask “If they had ever faced starvation or having no clothing?” These are simple questions that when people slander agriculture they don’t really think about, but they
The agriculture industry has been ever changing, due to the population increases. Subsidies keep the small farm going, protecting
The detective is in this story was a smart ,teenage, girl, Deila. One of five words that I would describe her would be…
Today we live in an agriculturist society, but previously hunter and gathering was the popular way of survival. The diversity between them is astonishing whether that be how many children they have or where they live. Also, the way they control the rules, government, and social problems is extremely different. However, there is some of the same characteristics that help them survive and make their systems work more efficiently.
Farm workers are the key to the U.S food system, and although our population relies on
The practice of farming is over 11,500 years old. Before farming people would spend most of their lives in search of food. People would hunt wild animals and gather what they could from the areas they temporarily stayed at. People slowly learned how to grow simple cereal and root crops. These people steeled and began a life based on farming. The advancement of agriculture has progressed greatly in the last century. More advanced equipment has led to higher yields and more land to be cultivated for farming. Everything in the agricultural trade has changed from plows, tractors, trucks, and even ways to get around the farm have changed immensely. The simplest things are now complex, but extremely efficient. We have been catapulted into a technological
The United Farm Workers (UFW) was created under the mantel of protecting farm workers from the harsh conditions and as such, were fighting against the farm agriculture company from its very creation in 1962. A fight that is still going on today, is about the use of pesticides and the adverse side effects it has on the farm workers. Thanks to the Reuther Library, here at Wayne State University, they were able to preserve thousands of documents from the UFW on this very account. The collections scope goes well beyond even that with dozens of boxes related to other concerns of Farm Workers, as well, which includes topics from pay to education. Showing the variance available at the Reuther for researchers of all types, this blog post will highlight two collections: the UFW Information and Research Department and the UFW Public Relations Jocelyn Sherman Records.
When I get older, I’m looking at going into farming. Farming is like gambling, one never know if he is going to make money or not. Farming is something I know and like; the education, earnings, and duties are not always easy.
Farmers will eventually suffer in the short and long run regarding the total revenue that they receive and experience lower profits. Dire consequences could arise as some farmers will have no work force and large amounts of land consequently forcing them to abandon fertile land and go elsewhere; while some small scale farms suffer immensely and required to shut down. Primarily in the short run farmers would make structural adaptations and include mechanisation and consolidation to become efficient and cost effective. With technology not being readily available and
The agriculture field is one of the biggest employers, employing over 155 million people in the United States. What do you think about when you hear the word “agriculture?” Many people would say farming, but this is not the most common occupation in this field. Farmers make up a fraction of the agricultural jobs at 900,000, but over 2.1 million people own, rent, and claim farming as a primary source of income. The average farm size has dropped from 460 acres in 1990 to 418 acres in 2007, while the average age of this occupation rose to 57, making this one of the older workforces in the United States.
I grew up in the Lower Yakima Valley and have never looked in depth at the diversity of agricultural crops until this class has gotten me interested. Every day I drive down West Wapato road after taking my five-year-old to school and I noticed the Blueberry Hill Berries sign. So, I decided to take a trip to the u-pick berry field for my “Farm Survey” assignment.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 3.2 million farmers operate the nation 's 2.1 million farms. Although only 2 percent of the farms in America are operated by large corporations (2012 Census Highlights), they produce a considerable amount of the nation’s food supply. Large scale operation enables these major corporations to cut production cost, allowing these businesses to sell their product a lower market price. These low prices make it very difficult for smaller farm operations to compete. Inability to compete causes many traditional farmers and farm families to look for additional means of income, or even completely different means of employment.
There are tons of things that are going to that will impact the agriculture in the next twenty years. Agriculture will change throughout those twenty years. Agriculture has already changed a lot from doing things from hand to now being able to press a few buttons and then everything will be done for you, without having to do anything yourself.
