Be careful what you pay for

Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser, has given me a lot of insight on so many different aspects of food industries. About how the food industries was manifested and who were the people that made the industry grow into what it is today. Food is obviously something we need as humans, without it we wouldn’t be able to survive very long, but what if what we are consuming on a daily basis is already taking a negative effect on our health? It’s lit up “M” logo is even known by children all over the nation. McDonald’s serves a variety of hamburgers, milkshakes, chicken nuggets, and so many more. McDonald’s successful business strategy purposely targets the minds of kids with happy meals, toys, and their inside playgrounds. Because of the growth of fast food being placed in schools. Kids are being fed fast food Monday- Friday. Of course, fast food industries look at this as a “good” thing for their business, even though it is very detrimental for kid’s to be consuming that much unhealthy food daily. School should be providing an option of many healthy foods for their students, not unhealthy food that is contributing to the rise of obesity and the lack of concentration. In the introduction of the article “Broken Scales: Obesity and Justice in America” by Adam Benforado, John Hanson, & David Yosifon, it states, “America is fat. For some, the evidence is clear: a cavernous dent in the once-sturdy couch, the belt which grows like kudzu, the cruel raiders in the eyes of strangers.” (1688) The overabundance of body mass among the younger generation is a very crucial issue. Consuming foods that have been chemically fabricated is not a substance our bodies would benefit from. Consumption of chemicals shouldn’t ever be acceptable.
