In this modern, fast paced world students should not be required to take elective courses to complete a baccalaureate and should only be required to successfully complete courses related to their chosen major. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, two-thirds of jobs will require postsecondary education by 2018. Therefore, college degrees are becoming more and more significant in achieving a successful job. In order to receive a college degree, there are certain requirements needed to complete a degree program. One of those requirements are core classes, which teach necessary and valuable information that is directly related to the major. The other requirement is electives that are counted towards the degree program but are not related to the degree major. Therefore, students should not be required to take electives because they are simply a waste of time and money. Electives are provided to help those unsure of what they want to do, however all students should not suffer their time to take electives because of a few that are unsure of what they want to do. American students go through twelve years of schooling learning a wide range of topics and during these years students should have an idea of their likes and strengths. For those ready to pursue in their choice of field, students should be allowed to do so without the additional course requirements. For some majors, electives might be beneficial or personally fulfilling, but to others it may not be. For
