William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” is the most infamous tragedy to happen in playwriting. The most important part of Hamlet is how there is a lot of tension between Claudius and Hamlet, and their fight that nearly collapses the entire kingdom. Hamlet has a lot on his plate, from trying to avenge his father’s death to just wanting to die; and because this is a Shakespeare tragedy, the theme of death is evident.
In the first act, after much consultation, King Hamlet talks to Prince Hamlet and tells him that his brother, Claudius, has killed him. Prince Hamlet feels he has to avenge his late father's death and agrees to kill his uncle for his father. He talks about how it would be better to die than to rather get some actual sleep, but he realizes that even in death you can have nightmares. As stated before, Hamlet's famous soliloquy is talking about life or death. He is overcome with stress that he hasn't had a chance to sleep and is now thinking about how it would be peaceful to just die, but he doesn't know what will happen to him after death. "And, by opposing, end them? To die, to sleep— No more—and by a sleep to say we end the heartache and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to—’tis a consummation devoutly to be wished! To die, to sleep. To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there’s the rub, for in that sleep of death what dreams may come," (III.i.61-7) Hamlet is literally just so tired with everything. He's at his breaking point, he is willing to die because he doesn't know if he can go through with his late father's task. Hamlet's family is breaking down his functioning system, he is trying his best to avenge his father that he acts like he is mental to the point it seems it has actually become him.
