Throughout the novel Lord Of The Flies written by William Golding, fear is the cause of all the struggles that take place on the island. In the beginning every boy fears the “beast” which somewhat brings all of them together, but the longer their on the island the more they develop other fears which separates the group as Jack's hunters and Ralph's group. Ralph says during the first assembly “Then people started getting frightened” (83). Ralph could see from early on that the overwhelming fear of the beast will cause them to break up and fight. Even though the all the boys are afraid of the beast they also feel panic towards Jack and Roger. Ralph especially is frightened by Jack and his hunters because he is the one being hunted.
