In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo can not handle the change that has been happening while he was away. In Long Walk To Freedom by Nelson Mandela, Mandela fights for freedom and change, He wanted equal right between both blacks and whites. In Things Fall Apart, Okonkwo is driven by the fear of change. Umuofia is like a child to Okonkwo. When Okonkwo was banished from Umuofia, he was determined that when he returned to his homeland he would restart and build up new, he was determined to be very successful. Everyone would respect him again.
