BACKGROUND
The United States has a quite different educational system than China. In China, there is not something like GMAT or GRE in the process of application. After the students pass the national exams for English politics and math, they will need to go through the major course test of the university in which they applied. Chinese students can just apply for one university’s master degree in the end of their senior year. However, if international students want to apply for master degrees in the United States, they need to start in the end of their junior year. In addition, there are also many additional requirements for international students in the admission process. As a result, most international students don’t adjust to

The Chinese education system is the largest in the world and always wants the best higher education for the academically gifted. It takes twelve years to complete primary and secondary school. In 1986, an education law was passed stated that 9 years of education was mandatory for Chinese children (“China Education Center”). Only the brightest students are allowed to continue their education at a higher level. Because all Chinese students want the best education, it is difficult to get into high schools.
“As a international students, I care a lot about the difference of education system between the U.S. and China.”(culture shock) I realized that the educational ideas
Lin felt inferior to others at Shanghai not even being in the 50th percentile of his class his Sophomore year of high school. Lin did not go on take the testings to get into college because he knew that he would have a slim chance of getting accepted and due to the fact that the college in Shanghai would was so strict about accepting certain students, only 75 percent of nine million can get enrolled into a college according to statistics. Lin knew that he had a very slim chance. Getting into college was just based on the test called “Gaokao” which is known as the “ National Higher Education Entrance Exam” in America, it didn’t matter if you were a good student from preschool all the way up to your senior year of high school, Gaokao has no age restriction since 2001, this test is a nine-hour test that would last over a course of two days, Gaokao test you over many subjects like Chinese Literature, mathematics, English, social-science-oriented-area, natural-science-social area, history, politics, geography, physics, chemistry and biology.
Each country has its own kind of education, and education always plays an important role in affecting students’ life and study on many aspects. Having received ten years of education in China and two years of education in the U.S. I would like to compare and contrast a few significant aspects of these two different kinds of educations. Knowing that no two education systems are the same, the differences between American education and Chinese education allow countries to take the essence and discard the dross through learning from each other so as to improve their own current education systems.
The first difference is the size of classes. Due to the high population in China, the size of the classes is usually large in primary schools and high schools. There are approximately 70 people in a class. When I was in my high school in China, I had so many classmates. Thus, there was no time for everyone to demonstrate their personal thoughts in class freely. Unlike China, the population of the USA is just one-tenth of it. Therefore, when I study in the U.S., I find that the size of
Students only go to school for 8 hours and have many holiday breaks and a longer summer vacation. American classrooms are more crowded though, and the expectations from teachers are lower. Classrooms are divided between below average kids, average kids, and above average kids. In contrast, Chinese schools believe that all students have the ability to learn a subject, although it may take more effort than the other students. A positive strength America has over China is the lessons are more hands on. For example, students learning about gravity might drop tennis balls from the roof to learn about the subject, while in China, students learn subjects solely from lectures. Colleges are easier to be accepted into in America since there are many different pathways, like going to community college first or taking a gap year. In China, it’s either do well on the college exam or never get
1. Detailed Explanation: People should recycle their paper and plastics instead of burning or sending trash to the dump. Burning trash made of certain plastics and chemicals can cause toxic smoke and air pollution. Also, just throwing away your waste only adds to our Earth’s litter and land and water pollution problems.
Being able to adapt to existing certainties will allow companies to survive and be successful, despite the size of the company. They must be able to recognize and understand outside influences from the industry. GM has been able to recognize the certainties of the market and understand its competitors and challenges because of scanning. The significance of this has allowed GM to adjust the focus and benefit from opportunities in China.
The United States has always been a main attraction for international students to gain intellectual knowledge, technical skills, cross-cultural experience, and better opportunities for professional development (Han, Han, Luo, Jacobs, & Jean-Baptiste, 2013; Zhang & Goodson, 2010). According to the Institute of International Education (2017), in the academic year of 2015/2016, there was an increase of 7% in the number of international student pursuing higher education in the United States over the previous year with total international students of 1,043,839 and 5.2% representing the total of U.S College enrollment. International students make higher education one of the largest service sector exports in the United States (Rice, Choi, Zhang, Morero, & Anderson, 2012; Zhang & Goodson, 2010). They are regarded as a vital financial commodity for countries
The differences between the Chinese education and the American education are more obvious in people’s mind, not only to the international students, but also to the native students and some people who study on this. As more and more Chinese students come to America to have better education, we should think about why the American education system is better and how could we change our system to have a new education system in China. These differences have some deeply reason, like the American is the nation which loves freedom. It took long time to make such a big difference between the two education systems, and we need longer time to change it. An undeniable
Another major consideration for international students is admissions testing. Every university has its own set of tests and standards which an international
Obtaining entrance into a top U.S. university is a long and intimidating process for many students, especially for potential Chinese applicants. Completing essays, acquiring recommendation letters, and writing personal statements is a challenge in which many Chinese applicants may not be able to complete on their own. With the increasing number of foreign students wishing to attend universities abroad, it has inadvertently established an immense market for college advisory services in which these agencies both charter any path that will guarantee students' college entrance, even if it means padding test scores and writing samples.
As a normal international student, my life and future career were totally changed after I came to the American. It was biggest and surprise turn-point of my life because I was not expected to study abroad. I never thought about studying in American because no one went to study abroad around me when I was in China. Most of my classmates and friends didn’t want to stay far away from the hometown. However, my life was totally changed after I receive my grades of college entrance examination. Also, that’s the reason why I came to American.
The differences that exist between the Chinese and American education systems are great and obvious. However, some of these differences don’t play to the strengths of the representative country. American schools allow for greater freedom of movement and choice, while Chinese schools decide the “what”, “where”, and “how” of educational circumstance for the students (Bush, tony, and Qiang Haiyan). These differences in structure should lead to a greater educational standard being held by China, but that isn’t always the case. This paper will examine the differences in education system in the two countries and show that the Chinese system, while
