The handsome giant Orion was a companion of the goddess but her jealous brother Apollon tricked her into killing him with a distant bow-shot. In her grief Artemis placed him amongst the stars as the constellation Orion.<>
I chose the constellation Andromeda because the back story and myths it has really fascinates me! I feel that some of the myths behind the consolations can be rather boring, but with the romance and danger all wrapped into one, I continue going back to it. This constellation is the 19th largest in the sky and is located in the first quadrant of the northern hemisphere. It takes seven-hundred-twenty-two square feet in the sky!
This is my myth of Orion. From the day that he had been born, Orion was a sickly, crippled child, with little chance of survival. One day, when the boy was six years of age, his father took Orion to the temple to meet the Oracle. The father prayed
My Favorite Constellation is Hercules. Hercules is the fifth largest constellation in the sky, occupying an area of 1225 square feet in the sky. I've chosen this constellation because I quite enjoy the Greek myth behind it.
I have chosen the Perseus Constellation. I chose that contallation because I have always liked the Greek Gods mythology. Perseus, named after the Greek Mythology hero, is a constellation in the Northen Sky. Perseus is bordered by Aries and Taurus to the south, Auriga to the east, Camelopardalis and Cassiopeia to the north, and Andromeda and Triangulum the west.
Orion was one of the males trying to court Artemis. He was a hunter, so that was in his favor. She accepted him, but only as a friend. She warned him that if he tried to marry her, than she would fight him until he was out of sight. He agreed, but couldn't help liking her. After all, who wouldn't like her? Artemis was a feisty, strong hunter, and so was he. They were perfect for each other. Or so he thought. A few months later, he asked for her hand in marriage, and she refused. Furious and heartbroken, Orion challenged her to a fight. If he won, she would marry him. If she won, he would be out of her sights and gone for good. The fight lasted for days. Each of them fought brilliantly, suffering minimal injuries. Then, on the third day, Artemis took out Orion's eye. After that, Orion fought poorly, misaiming and throwing himself off balance. Finally, on the seventh day, he surrendered. He stumbled away from Artemis's camp, and came upon Hephaestus. Hephaestus ended the hunter's pain, healing his wounds and giving him a laser eye to replace his long gone other. In conclusion, I think no other constellation could compare with Orion and his wonderful, yet gruesome, creation
1. I've chosen the constellation "Draco." I chose this one because it was the constellation that my mother always talked about when I was little. She'd tell me stories about it's stars and she'd always let me stay up late to look at it. Draco is the 8th largest constellation and has 9 stars, the brightest of which is Gamma Draconis. It belongs to the Ursa Major family.
Cassiopeia is the constellation I have chosen. It is a very interesting constellation, comprised of various stars named with a Greek letter followed by Cassiopeiae (e.g. Alpha Cassiopeiae). The stars also have various traditional names of other origin, for instance Alpha is traditionally called Shedir from Arabic. I chose the constellation partly because I like the name, but it also has interesting origins and I am glad I looked up more details about it.
of Hera, the wife of Zeus. She had a scorpion kill him, so Zeus put Orion in the sky as a
In Greek mythology, Orion was a giant. There are several versions of the myth of Orion. One of them tells that Orion had raped Merope, daughter of Oenopion, who therefore left him blind. Helios restored his sight and then became Orion's hunting companion of Artemis and Leto. He vowed to destroy every thing that had on earth, so Gea got angry and gave birth to
My favorite constellation is Scorpius. I have chosen Scorpius because that is my Zodiac sign, and I have come to learn about it a lot in the past few years. Scorpius is Latin for "scorpion," and Scorpius is in between the constellation Libra to the west and Sagittarius to the east.
According to mythology, Orion proclaimed himself the greatest hunter in the world, to the dismay of Hera, wife of Zeus. Hera had a scorpion kill Orion and Zeus put him into the sky as a constellation.
I have chosen the Pegasus constellation. I chose this because I love the mythical story of the Pegasus, and have wanted one since I was a little kid.The constellation appears high in the sky towards the end of summer, and continues through fall. The a Peg, B Peg, Y Peg, and andromedae Stars make up the square of this constellation. The front legs are made of two rows of stars. This is the third biggest constellation in the sky.
There are quite a few myths surrounding the constellation Orion, my favorite however states that Orion was a mortal man who was gifted to the gods of Olympus. Because of this he was a great hunter and spent his days taking down animals and monsters in sport, this drew the goddess Artemis’s eye and the two of them became close friends. Throughout this bond Artemis began to forget her vows of eternal maidenhood and thought to marry Orion. Her brother Apollo wasn’t pleased and to combat this he pointed out Orion as he swam. Apollo then taunted Artemis, daring she couldn’t hit the unidentified item, and Artemis took the dare, killing Orion and out of respect for her hunting partner she placed him in the sky to hunt with his dogs forever.
It is known as “The Hunter” because it is associated with greek mythology and it was also associated with fifth dynasty pharaohs. The three stars that make up Orion's Belt is called Alnilam, Mintaka, and Alnitak; they are the most important stars in this constellation. Also, Orion’s right shoulder Betelgeuse is the second brightest star and rigel is the first. Although, Bellatrix Orion’s left shoulder does not fall much behind by being the third brightest star in Orion. It was used as a central importance to many of the ancient cultures because they would align structures with the Orion’s stars, like they did
