South Park has been around for a while now. Since it was aired for the first time on 13th August 1997, the show has constantly pushed the boundaries taking on everything, leaving out nothing. The reception among the wider population and the media had a wide range from “shocking” to “excellent”. One of the aspects of this success story is that, because of its provocative tone the show has managed to stay in the limelight. Public debate was evolving around certain episodes, bringing more and more attention to the show. As it was constantly picking up contemporary themes, topics or events, expectations were growing and “ 'How will South Park deal with x ' has become a common catch phrase” (Johnson-Woods 257). The ideal image of ‘nuclear family’ used to be described as a male husband, a female wife and their kids; however, in few decades, the term family has become diverse without any blood-related relationships. Because of this recent change of family values, it is easy to find that present television shows also reflect the new concept of family and influence the recognition of the viewers at the same time. Among many TV programs such as ‘Simpsons’, ‘F is for family’ and ‘How I met your mother’, ‘Modern Family’ is a representative show dealing with modern family types and values. It is a domestic TV sitcom of ABC, featuring the lives of three different types of fictional families. Apart from the humorous stories, it becomes very popular because of suggesting that friendly characters are easy to relate to real life. It shows innovative aspects of family structures including a gay couple with an adopted baby and an interracial marriage between a divorced old man with a much younger woman. In addition, its form is a fake documentary about when family members agree to participate in interviews for a documentary, but they don’t actually realize how much they are revealing their lives themselves. Also, the main theme of the show is "But that 's the thing about family: no matter how badly you behave, hopefully they 'll forgive" (Modern Family Synopsis, 2011). The show has a favourable notice in media field because it handles social issues through its characters showing racial,
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a successful comedy show with extremely high ratings in its genre winning numerous awards such as the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series (Comedy) in 2014. As a predecessor of NBC’s The Office, Parks and Recreation (or P&R for short,) had big shoes to fill. Both shows were created by Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, and at first, P&R did not impress many, as its ratings were low. The first season seemed not to have a place, like a show trying to be something it was not, until it found its footing. Feminism was the missing piece of the puzzle. The show went on to become a success- arguably more so than The Office. So what separates the two? P&R eventually gave us something The Office never did: real world issues, served up with clever wit. The fictional worlds most television shows take place in, are almost entirely post-feminist. Unlike these sexism-free utopias, P&R normalizes feminism, reminding us that it exists and is important; it is the stepping stone we need to further conversations about inequality. While the text of P&R is consistently the most obviously empowering aspect of the show, production practices and audience consumption are also rich with evidence of this series’ feminist potential.
Every television show falls into one genre or another. Whether its an Action, Comedy, Drama, Adventure show, they all fall into the category of different types of television genres. The concept of a genre can be used in “rhetoric, literary theory, media theory and more recently linguistics, to refer to a distinctive type of ‘text’” (Chandler, 1). Thus, every aspect of television exhibits a reliance on genre in which becomes a principal factor of framing texts which support comprehension. Throughout this essay, I will focus specifically on the genre of Teen TV Drama using the television show Degrassi: The Next Generation, and comparing it to two other programs such as Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills of 90210. Through this notion, we
The American version of The Office debuted in 2005 with the start of its six-episode first season. After the airing of the “Pilot” episode, a reviewer from the Deseret Morning News commented, “Maybe […] after The Office dies a quick death on NBC, the network will decide that trying to Americanize British TV comedies isn’t such a great idea” (quoted in Pilot (The Office)). Despite its original negative reception, The Office went on to run nine successful seasons and has become a television favorite of individuals across America. The show focuses on the misadventures of the lost souls employed at Dunder-Mifflin Scranton, a branch of a paper-selling company located in Pennsylvania. Under the management of clueless Michael Scott, characters

The idea of the Twelfth Night can be loosely related to NBC’s The Office. Specifically, these connections consist of similar conflicts and themes within the show and book.
A dramatic through-line spanning an entire series offers an additional layer to the narrative, mirroring the way individuals reflexively understand their lives with the passing of days, weeks, and years. The constant disruptions and resolutions in sitcom resonates with viewers as symptomatic of contemporary life (Wickham 2013: 57). Most episodes of Kimmy Schmidt culminate in the resolution of a minor crisis for example Titus does not know how to text a potential boyfriend, or Jacqueline is struggling to relate to her boisterous son, usually with help from Kimmy. This kind of existential crisis explains why as a society people create and consume humorous culture, and sitcom portrays and communicates the fundamental human desire of individuals to understand their identity and their general surroundings. In the case of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Kimmy’s rehabilitation, refusal to acknowledge her past trauma, and durable optimism provides the greater story arch of which each episode is situated within.
Popular television shows in the previous decades share some similar and different characteristics. For instance, in earlier decades, such as the late 1980’s and the early 1990’s, the way people saw television screens were different. In this decade, we have a thing called high definition, or HD for short. High definition makes the television screens appear clearer. This is something that did not yet exist in previous decades. Had high definition existed, the popular television shows in the past may have had more similar characteristics to the popular television shows today. Even without the effect of high definition, there were still different categories of television shows that there still are

The Simpsons (Fox, 1989) is America’s longest running sitcom, the youtube channel ‘Now You See It’ suggests that this is because of “The Perfect Balance.” (Now You See It, 2015) The use of classic sitcom techniques such as sincere lessons revolving around relatable topics like home life, religion and the workplace teamed with ‘cartoon’ humour allows for The Simpsons to both make us laugh and make us empathise with the characters in a way other
Critics decry the perverseness of television. They claim that the abundance of sexual content is poisoning their minds. Unfortunately, when it comes to backing up these claims, they are hard pressed to actually find evidence to back this up. Sexual content will be searched within the parameters of sitcoms. This paper will be specifically focusing on sexual content when it is portrayed in a comedy. Comedies are unique from dramas because they portray things in a funny light. They can still deal with serious topics, but they go about things in a different manner. Topics are played for a comedic effect, and when they revolve around things that are sexual in nature, people are worried that they are encouraging that specifically. The research will be exploring whether the subject of these sexual jokes are a man or a woman. There are comedic sexual references to both males and females being made by both males and females.
