I was looking for an interactive study abroad experience where I could obtain more experience doing fieldwork, and found this specific program. The aspects of this class that primarily caught my attention were the opportunity to do fieldwork, travel to a different continent, camp/hike in one of the worlds famous regions (Amazon rainforest), and the opportunity to widen my knowledge of biodiversity and how to calculate it. I have studied abroad before, with Dr. CS Chaboo doing fieldwork in Costa Rica, where we collected insects and other creatures from leaf-rolls and inflorescences we found in the cloud rainforests of Monteverde and other regions. In order to find the specific plants that we wanted to study, we had to hike through Monteverde and surrounding areas. These hikes were hard and very rewarding and powered my interest …show more content…
This program, along with the joining course on campus, will allow me not only to explore the world, but also explore new possible career pathways. Although I know that I want to continue on to go to graduate school, I am not sure which specific field I want to continue my studies in. I will have a B.S. degree in Environmental Studies after graduating in 2018, and plan to move out of state to continue my higher education. After attending the Costa Rica trip, it became evident that whatever kind of work I want to do in the future, I want it to heavily involve fieldwork and the study of the health of ecosystems. My short-term goals for the future include some kind of Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) or an internship that will allow me to further explore during the summer which kinds of ecosystems I want to focus my career on (education and
Using examples relevant to your discipline, define professional identity as it relates to health and human services delivery and discuss and consider how industry, professional and quality agencies guide the provision of safe and effective patient or client care in your discipline.
What life experiences have motivated you to choose a career in the medical, health, or life science fields? During my four years at Crispus Attucks High School I have gained experiences that has influenced me to choose a career in the Business field. Not only have I gained experiences at Crispus Attucks but I have also gained experiences outside of school with the opportunities they have provided me with. The exposure that I have encountered at Crispus Attucks is the involvement in the NoMore Club and by preference taking Introduction to Business on Edgenuity.
I’ve always loved children and helping to care for them, and the opportunity to be a teaching assistant in SMIC’s annual summer camp in 2013 was perfect for me. I’ve always loved babysitting, but actually being able to teach seemed fun and different. For two weeks of July, along with the teacher I was assigned to, I helped teach basic English to eight year-olds from local Chinese schools. Although they could be rowdy or annoying at times, I grew fond of these kids and they of me. I learned to be patient with these children and not get irritated at what I thought were simple words or phrases. I discovered that teaching younger children was not only about teaching them the content in their textbooks, but also caring for them and helping them grow mentally. Situations like breaking up
The personal statement is very important to applicants who intend to be admitted to an undergraduate or graduate school. The role of a personal statement is to make applicants be different from other applicants. It mainly serves the purposes of persuading the admission committee of applicants’ great passion for the study field, explaining their experience that shaped their personality, demonstrating their longtime desire and commitment for the degree, and showing their life goals. What the admission committee is looking for in a personal statement varies from school to school, major to major. Art and Design is a unique program requiring its prospective students to be different in every aspect. The Art and Design Admission Committee is looking for a student who has creative potential in all respects. Hence, for those who want to apply to the School of Art and Design, they should understand how to present their stories, experiences, practice, goals, philosophy, inspirations, and aspirations in a creative way.

This course is not available in my home country. I will be supported by my family with finances for the duration of my studies in Australia and I have savings too.
My Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary studies concentrated on Human Service. This degree is unique in a way that it allows students to choose his/her own path of education. I chose the disciplines of nursing, education and psychology. I completed a clinical semester in a nursing home facility. Direct physical contact with patients was something that was very eye opening for me.
Growing up, my parents instilled the value of service in me. For this reason, I pursued a degree in Education in order to serve my community with the best skillset. However, it was until serving as an AmeriCorps member that I developed a more critical lens to what public service means. Before my term of service, I thought serving was just a matter of showing up and completing a task. While this is partially true, I learned that in order to maximize change, it is important to involve who we are serving. At times, we focus more on quantity rather than quality and end up doing a disservice to communities who need the most help. I want to serve with The Peace Corps to facilitate change and to empower communities through education.
As a recent graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and a new Research Technician at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, becoming more familiar with different healthcare settings and helping others in doing so have always been of my interest. From my experience of volunteering as a piano teacher for inner-city children in Baltimore, I have learnt that even a small commitment and emotional support can make a big difference in the daily lives and the happiness of those in need. I have briefly familiarized myself to the hospital environment by shadowing physicians and conducting biomedical research but have yet to translate my volunteering experiences and the lessons learnt from them to the healthcare setting. I am a friendly, optimistic,
I write in pursuit of becoming a teaching assistant for EG-1003 beginning this fall. I seek this position wishing to further develop my skills in communication and collaboration. Furthermore, I would admire watching student creativity in action when they work in the labs and interacting with others when helping them solve problems. I believe my previous experience and personality enable me to be an effective teaching assistant.
A journey to Costa Rica was music to my freshman ears. My eagerness to explore, and the thought that any teacher would offer another opportunity like this again, drove me to attend every informational meeting and see through that I embark on this trip. Unfortunately, my craving for adventure was left unsatisfied due to financial problems and the wait for another chance to explore the world began. It was my junior year when that window of opportunity appeared again. With my eyes set on Global Glimpse, I dragged my parents to the information meeting in order to convince them to allow me to embark on the once in a lifetime journey. The program was a remarkable movement to encourage the new generation of leaders to experience firsthand life in
Booker T. Washington, an American educator, said, “Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” The “happiness” to which Washington refers, is shown to the Hispanic community through the nonprofit organization, El Centro Hispano. This organization cherishes volunteers who show an aptitude for learning and contributes to the community. Within five years of volunteering, I have developed into a mature young lady with a desirable passion for helping out the Hispanic community. I had the pleasure to volunteer at El Centro Hispano, which offers educational programs or financial assistance to those in need.
From an early age, I had the desire to give back to my community. This desire was likely instilled in me by my mother, who as a school teacher, went to great lengths to help her students achieve academically. To better do this, she created at Tupelo Middle School in Mississippi, the Mermaids and Argonauts Program, which allowed students to travel on extended school trips to locations where they were able to have hands-on experiences at zoos, science labs, colleges, museums, and more across the country. As her child, I was able to tag along on many of these trips, which fueled my desire to learn about and interact with my environment. It left me with the great hope that someday I would be able to have such experiences abroad, in order to better learn about the people and cultures with which I interact. For this reason, I hope to study abroad this summer in Pachuca, Mexico.
No worries! I would love to continue working with you. I won't be able to work this upcoming week but any week after that (unitl the week of January 16th) I will be open.
I want to develop new skills that will help me later on in life and get a hands-on experience that a classroom doesn't offer. I also want to meet other students with similar interests as mine and get a great social experience out of this too. In addition to this, I want to have a career in the science field, so this will give me a look into what science is like behind the scenes. Everything we learn in textbooks has once been researched and it would be a great opportunity to see that and learn how the process works. This research experience can also help me determine what kind of career I would like to choose for college. Moreover, participating in this meaningful program promises to be an unforgettable experience in my student life. This will be such a unique experience for me because I have never done anything like this before. I wouldn't really get a chance elsewhere to do hands on research in a high school level and really see what goes on. Most of the work we do in school is studying and taking exams and being part of research and contributing to a realm of discovery is very
I doubt anyone will contest that environmentalism is an elitist field. There are many reasons for this. To be honest, I am a big ole city slicker. But in field research is necessary and I know it won't always be comfortable; I assume Georgia in the middle of the summer will be uncomfortable. I also have yet to do hardcore aquatic bio research. I did take a full year in General Chemistry, and I have done environmental lab work, but in neither class did I ever feel a hundred percent comfortable. I think this program can provide something my classes could not: comfort in a scientific environment.
